Pastor Dana Coverstone is creating quite the buzz in Christian circles. He released a video where he shares some prophetic dreams he’s had. A dream from December seemed to predict the global pandemic and protests. Now he’s had 2 more, which appears to give us insight into what’s coming next.
I’d encourage you to watch the whole thing so you can hear everything he has to say, as well as see his genuineness, but I’ll try to be fair as I summarize the basics of these 3 dreams. There will be a lot of bullet points here, and then I’ll get into how we can use discernment with something like this.
Dream 1 (from December, 2019)
- A hand started flipping through a calendar, stopping on March and tapping it 3 times.
- The hand then flipped to June and tapped it 3 times
- He saw marching, protests, masks, people on ventilators, cities on fire, courthouses surrounded, barriers in cities
- He saw vultures that will make an appearance in dream #2
- During this dream, he heard a voice say “brace yourself”
Dream 2
- A white figure appears and says “Part 2,” which Dana believes is the Holy Spirit
- The hand flips the calendar to September and taps it 3 times
- It flips to November and punches it, exploding the calendar
- He sees armed protesters
- Schools are closed and look completely abandoned
- Banks have their roofs removed and the money is flying into the air as though being sucked up by a vacuum
- Politicians are making shady deals in back rooms
- Washing DC is burning
- Chinese and Russian troops invade, seeming to represent the U.N., and start rounding people up
- The vultures have turned into flying gargoyles and start attacking people
- During all of this, he notices that President Trump is missing
- Again, he hears the words “brace yourself”
Dream 3
- He goes to a bank to get change, and he’s told the U.S. mint is no longer making coins, and soon won’t make smaller bills
- Told by bank’s president to prepare for inflation and start charging $2 instead of $1.50
From these 2 recent dreams, Pastor Dana gives several warnings and pieces of advice
- A 2nd wave of Covid is coming
- Protests will worsen
- We’re building toward a civil war
- We need to stockpile food, guns, ammo, and alternative currency (like silver)
- Christians need to focus on their relationship with Christ
- This is all likely being done by the Antichrist who hates our American freedoms because we stand in the way of his plans (Pastor Dana believes the Antichrist from Revelation is alive today)
To be very clear, Pastor Dana regularly clarifies that he’s not a prophet, but he believes dreams can have prophetic qualities. He is very willing to be wrong, and on December 1st he encourages people to call him a fool if these things don’t happen. He says he didn’t make this video to produce fear, which I expect is his attempt to stop people from reacting with a fear that doesn’t honor Christ.
From what little I’ve seen of him, this man seems genuine. I don’t know if he’s a false teacher based on this little clip (a deeper dive into his theology would probably be required to lay that accusation), nor does he seem like he’s trying to milk the Christian obsession with end-times interpretations. However, this 15-minute video has some things we need to consider before accepting it as truth.
But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil. (Hebrews 5:14)
A mark of Christian maturity is the ability to discern – to use wisdom as we evaluate truth claims and judge whether they honor God. So as we hear a claim of prophetic dreams, we glorify God by thinking critically before we call them truth. So here are some important things to consider as we evaluate these prophetic dreams and determine whether they’re truly a message from God.
Understanding prophecy
It can be hard to figure out how we should understand prophecy in our modern setting. It seems so prevalent in the Old Testament, as well as early parts of the New Testament. We read commands about how to handle prophecy, with 1 Thessalonians even warning that particular church against despising prophecies.
However, it’s important to remember the traits of prophecy and those who delivered it.
Overall, a prophecy was a direct message from God to a particular group of people. Whenever we read “thus saith the Lord,” you know you’re dealing with prophecy. A prophet may not always understand what he’s saying (Isaiah and John likely had no idea what some things meant), but they had no doubt that what they said came from God.
Prophecy also had a purpose to it. When God gave a prophecy, it was meant to show His glory. God would often call people to repentance (such as Jonah prophesying the destruction of Ninevah). Other times, God confirmed His sovereignty and righteousness by telling about events that He had ordained (such as Daniel showing God’s sovereignty over history by prophesying what He was going to do).
As we get to the New Testament, God continues to use prophecy to instruct His people. Keep in mind that Christ had upset thousands of years of Jewish tradition, and Christianity was spreading rapidly. As we read the New Testament letters, we see that people are constantly being led astray by trying to make Christ work alongside Jewish law or a pagan philosophy called “gnosticism.”
People at that time didn’t have the New Testament to inform their practical living and theology, because it was still being inspired. The best-case scenario was that a church had access to most of the Old Testament, which still held great value for the Christian life when properly interpreted, and maybe 1 or 2 letters from an apostle like Paul or Peter. So how was God going to protect His people from believing false teachers and straying from the faith?
And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ (Ephesians 4:11-12)
He gave the churches prophets when they needed them. He allowed some people to speak a direct message from God to teach and encourage their local church as they tried to honor and serve God in every belief and action. He “filled in the gaps” in areas they were misunderstanding because the people of that day couldn’t wait centuries for all the letters from the apostles to be gathered together. Yet as the letters and teachings of the apostles spread, we see the activity of prophets continue to shrink.
Today, we are blessed to not need prophets because we have no gaps in understanding left to fill. Although it seems boring and unsatisfying to only have the Bible (though we’d never admit to feeling that way), prophecy wasn’t God’s ideal method for communicating His desires. We know that because He eventually closed off the need for prophecy by allowing us to have everything we need within the pages of the Bible. God’s word is complete, with His purposes for prophecy fulfilled within it.
There’s great debate among Christians about whether prophecy still exists today. Even if it still exists, we must expect it to line up with the biblical pattern, even if that makes prophecy less exciting or common. Pastor Dana, although earnest in believing the message of his dreams, simply doesn’t display the pattern of biblical prophecy that we should expect from someone claiming to have a message from God.
Prophecy and Dana Coverstone
So why does all that matter? Consider what we know about prophecy:
- The prophet knows the message is from God
- It has a specific purpose
- It was used to “fill in the gaps” that have now been covered by the Bible
Let me state that Dana was very clear that he’s not a prophet and was very willing to be wrong. I greatly appreciate his humility and balanced approach, but his own words present a major problem. As we listen to these 3 prophetic dreams, and the (lack of) certainty of the one interpreting them, we see none of the biblical markers of prophecy.
But the prophet who speaks a word presumptuously in My name which I have not commanded him to speak, or which he speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die.’“You may say in your heart, ‘How will we know the word which the LORD has not spoken?’“When a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the thing does not come about or come true, that is the thing which the LORD has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him. (Deuteronomy 18:20-22)
No prophet ever approached a king and said “I think God wants me to tell you this,” nor did anyone stand up in the early church and proclaim “I’m pretty sure God says this is truth, but take it with a grain of salt.” Instead, prophets spoke with certainty and authority because they knew they were given a message by God.
In order to authenticate the authority of a prophet, God would often give them short-term prophecies to prove what they were saying about bigger matters. And to stop people from falsely representing Him (known as “taking God’s name in vain”), God even commanded the death of those whose prophecies didn’t come true. To declare a prophecy was to say “Kill me if this isn’t true.”
Pastor Dana doesn’t claim to be a prophet, and that’s precisely the problem. Nowhere in the Bible do we see someone speak and interpret a dream that could be wrong. God doesn’t work in uncertainties and “maybe, maybe not.” God is absolute in His message, and gives authority to His messengers.
By comparison, the greatest risk Pastor Dana is willing to take is for people to call him a fool when December 1st hits and his predictions are wrong. There’s no conviction, and no confidence, that this dream from God is anything more than the result of indigestion giving him weird dreams.
So could this be from God? If we compare the absolute authority carried by those who proclaimed prophecy or interpreted dreams in the name of the Lord, these prophetic dreams simply don’t match what God has clearly laid out. They’re dreams, and maybe even insightful ones, but they don’t match what we see in God’s word.
Informed forecasting vs prophecy
Pastor Dana claims to have shared his first dream with several men in his church back in December, and says they would confirm his prophecy. He also says that he reads 40 newspapers from around the world every day, and is very informed on world events. There’s a link here that we can’t overlook.
To explain my point, I’ll make a confession. I don’t like watching sports. I loved playing them with friends when I was younger, but watching other people play a sport never resonated with me. However, I grew up in a sports-loving family, and my mom would often bring home those NCAA brackets where people predict who would win various games, and whoever was the closest would win a prize.
It’s no surprise that those who really kept up with sports would be the ones to win these prizes. People can study the strength of teams, investigate the skill of individual players, follow the coaches to see how they feel about the year… there’s a lot someone can do to accurately predict the outcome of something as complex and “unpredictable” as a multi-team sports tournament. And while having enough knowledge to predict it is impressive, it’s not remotely surprising that a person who invests a bulk of their time in a subject is able to predict what will happen.
Now contrast that with me, who would pick teams based on which names I liked best. If I were able to predict 100% of a college basketball tournament, there would be no explanation other than pure luck or something supernatural.
That’s a lighthearted example, but it doesn’t matter what area we apply this to. People devote their lives to watching patterns in the stock market, investing in comic books, and predicting the weather. Anyone who works with dogs full-time can likely sense if a dog is going to attack long before the signs are obvious. Those who immerse themselves in a subject are naturally going to see patterns and have an informed understanding of what will happen before those of us who don’t.
Pastor Dana says he reads 40 newspapers from around the world every day. If there’s anyone I’d trust to accurately predict what direction the world is heading in, it’s someone who immerses themselves in global events like he does. This is a man with the intelligence and depth of knowledge to see things most of us would be blind to.
Thus, it comes as little surprise that his intuition may have informed him of some bad things coming in America and around the world. While most of us weren’t made aware of a global pandemic until months after it was already an issue, those with their “ear to the ground” heard rumblings about it in December. Even months before China started dealing with it, health officials had been warning that the world was ill-prepared for a global pandemic, yet they were confident that one was coming.
A global health catastrophe didn’t come out of thin air. If we put our detective hats on, we could easily trace backwards and realize that something was coming. The signs were there for people willing to put the pieces together.
More than an upcoming health crisis, growing unrest was even more apparent. If you watch the news or follow a Christian source like The Briefing by Albert Mohler, the world has been growing in outrage as injustice seems to continue happening. Racial tensions have been high and fuelling the growing support of Black Lives Matter (see my article on how Christians should use discernment there). It was only a matter of time before people reached their tipping point.
Taken together, it should come as no surprise that someone who is regularly bombarded with world events would see where things were leading. Nothing ever happens randomly – those with wisdom can see how cause-and-effect will play out in the world. It’s not easy, but experts in any field have shown that it’s not impossible to read the writing on the wall with incredible accuracy.
Is it impressive that Dana saw certain things coming? Absolutely, and I’m sure we’d all have doubted anyone who was reading the signs and making such terrifying predictions back in December. Is it surprising that he made such predictions (or, at the very least, had a dream in that direction), considering the amount of time he spends reading about events and patterns happening all over the world? Not really.
To sum up this point, prophecy isn’t based on seeing patterns and intuitively knowing where things will go. A meteorologist on the news doesn’t prophesy the weather. Similarly, it’s more likely that someone like Dana Coverstone was intelligent enough to see where the world was heading rather than assuming that a prediction, even in a dream, has no explanation except the supernatural.
Predictable predictions
In my 3-part series on Mormonism, I talked about how the religion is very American. Everything about it puts America at the center of things, which isn’t surprising considering it was founded in a prideful, individualistic culture. And in all things, we should be very wary when a belief starts with the idea that America is God’s chosen, blessed nation despite us murdering over 62 million of our own people since 1973.
I know nothing about Pastor Dana, but based on his comments I would suspect that he makes the dangerous mistake of equating politics with Christianity, something else I’ve very strongly warned against. Let’s look at some things he’s said:
- He’s a big fan of the 2nd amendment
- He calls for Christians to stockpile weapons and ammo
- He contrasts this with the chaos and violence that we need to be worried about
- He hints that defunding the police will lead to this
- In dream 2, he implies that all of this chaos is happening in November because Trump is absent (the assumed translation: Trump loses the election and the world loses its mind)
- He says the Antichrist orchestrates all of this to overthrow America because our freedoms are all that stand against his Satanic plans
If my comments about not liking sports didn’t destroy my credibility to Christians, then perhaps this will: America is not God’s chosen nation.
We are a nation guilty of the same things Israel was judged for when they would lay their living, screaming babies on the flaming-hot statues of Molech.
We are a nation that is infested with false teachers who are embraced by God’s people. Many Christians sit in Bible-believing churches and still listen to sermons or read books teaching the Prosperity Gospel. We accept people as teachers and prophets simply because we have no idea how to discern otherwise.
We worship everyone from celebrities to presidents with the same idolatry that Israel placed on their kings, rather than looking to the King of Kings for our guidance, truth, and salvation.
We have the greatest access to God’s word, yet we are probably the most biblically-ignorant generation in history.
Being able to own guns doesn’t make us the last bastion of righteousness. Having the freedom to say what we want and attend whatever church we like is something we thank God for, but that isn’t a sign of blessing or favor. I think we’d all prefer not being persecuted for our faith, but I would argue that having such easy access to Christianity has kept many from genuinely submitting their lives to the authority of Christ. Today, Christianity costs most people nothing more than a Sunday morning, a portion of their paycheck, and maybe a little guilt when they yell at their kids.
Our freedoms have made us spiritually fat and lazy, rather than drawing us to a deeper relationship with a wonderful Savior that people have died to follow.
So when a person’s nationalistic, American-centered theology matches their prophetic dream, we should be cautious. When we hear any prophecy today, it’s rarely in opposition to the “prophet’s” own beliefs, desires, or assumptions about truth. Instead, most prophecies seem to just confirm what someone already wants to believe. With that, we should evaluate Pastor Dana’s interpretation and ask whether it’s truly from God, or if he’s just confirming his own assumptions.
Is America really the only thing stopping the Antichrist? Is President Trump’s second term the only thing that will keep us from complete anarchy? Is our call in the face of persecution to stockpile guns and ammunition, often implying we should kill those who try to take them away? We need to interpret these ideas through the Bible first, rather than letting our political beliefs interpret what we believe about God’s will.
Look among the nations! Observe! Be astonished! Wonder! Because I am doing something in your days— You would not believe if you were told. (Habakkuk 1:5)
To give a biblical example of why prophecy doesn’t just confirm our beliefs, go read the short book of Habakkuk. This prophet wanted to know what God was up to regarding His chosen people. God obliged and revealed that He was sending a pagan nation to completely decimate Israel so that they would eventually turn in repentance to God.
Habakkuk had no concept that God would possibly do that, and he is in utter shock as God reveals this. When Habakkuk talked about this to others, no one would have said “Well, that’s Habakkuk for you. He’s always talking about how God is going to destroy us if we don’t repent.” Habakkuk’s message from God was far beyond his own belief system, and we see that repeated with many prophets.
Do we see that with Pastor Dana’s interpretation? If we were to get to know him or listen to his sermons, would we see a man who is a predictable American Christian from the Republican party? Does he see Trump as “God’s man,” would he support Christians taking up arms against an oppressive government, and talk about America as God’s chosen land?
I don’t know, but the things he says certainly matches those of that same worldview. If so, we need to ask whether we should give heed to a prophetic dream that puts America’s strength and goodness at the center of everything, perfectly agreeing with the interpreter’s own political beliefs, even though America has likely been under God’s righteous judgment for decades.
(Again, read my article on putting political parties before Christ to understand why a misplaced emphasis on politics should be an issue for us)
A call for discernment
I want to be very careful about how I’m portraying Pastor Dana. I don’t think he opposes Jesus Christ. Because I don’t know enough about the man’s beliefs, I’m working under the assumption that I’ll stand next to him in Heaven as we worship our Savior. He is very careful to point out that he’s not claiming to be a prophet. He says he doesn’t want to create fear. He says that men of his church would confirm that he spoke about his first dream back in December. Without knowing more about him, I’m willing to believe that a brother in Christ is being honest about all of these things.
But that doesn’t make him right. And it’s okay to call him wrong or misguided while still being loving and respectful.
My point in this article is to call for us to find the line between good intentions and truth. To paraphrase the musical group Beautiful Eulogy, we naturally have a desire for our lives to look supernatural like the book of Exodus rather than something as mundane as Ruth. There’s a reason that things like Left Behind and other end-times books are huge sellers within Christianity, despite all of these prophecies and predictions being proven wrong over time. They’re sensational as they spur our imaginations and love for the mysterious and catastrophic.
So when we’re listening to supposed prophecies, whether Pastor Dana’s or anyone else’s we must ask ourselves why we’re listening, and whether those reasons are more honoring to God or our own desires.
I know this was a lengthy post, so let me summarize the areas I think we need to consider as we think about these 3 prophetic dreams:
- We need to understand the purpose of prophecy. When we know the consistent patterns that prophecy and prophets share, we can evaluate whether a modern prophecy matches what God has already established in His word. Pastor Dana and his dreams don’t appear to match much of the biblical pattern.
- We must study and understand whether we still have prophets today. If God still uses them, then those prophets and interpretations must have the same authority that we see in Jeremiah and John, spoken with the same certainty required to root out false prophecies as modeled in Deuteronomy. If God’s purpose in prophecy is to bring Himself ultimate glory, He’s not going to have His messenger speak with anything but confidence that such a dream is absolutely, 100% a message from Him. Pastor Dana may insist he’s not a prophet, but everything he’s said is stepping into the role of a prophet, and not in a way that matches a biblical prophet.
- We need to understand the difference between forecasting and prophesying, and how even someone as well-meaning as Pastor Dana could get them mixed up. Someone who follows events closely is going to understand how things have played out historically, and how those are likely to play out in the future. If someone reads 40 international newspapers every day, it’s not unlikely that they will have a level of understanding and wisdom that exceeds anything we could understand. Pastor Dana’s wisdom doesn’t make him or his dreams prophetic, nor should it surprise us when his dreams reflect the things he dwells on throughout the day.
- It’s important to understand what’s influencing someone’s beliefs and interpretations. Is what they’re saying accurately lining up with what is clearly taught in God’s word, or is it being influenced by culture and political affiliations? No political party seeks to glorify God, and thus it’s unlikely that God is going to give a prophecy that affirms one of them. Nothing about Pastor Dana’s prophecy is shocking, difficult, or outside the norm of what appears to be his political beliefs.
- We need to evaluate what we’re being called to do. While a follower of Christ will be calling us to repent and love Him more, we also need to recognize what else they’re asking us to do. Is God giving him this message so we can stockpile guns and ammo and work on our personal holiness without any mention of preaching the gospel, remembering His sovereignty, or calling us out on our sins? Pastor Dana certainly points to Christ, but he also points to a lot more that has little to do with Him.
Within this 15 minute video, there are a lot of opportunities to use discernment. I tried not to nitpick everything, but instead took a broad look at the areas we should evaluate before accepting these dreams as truth and then allowing that truth to affect our lives.
The actual topic of ‘what is prophecy?” is our greatest consideration here. Little about these 3 prophetic dreams seem to line up with the patterns we see in the Bible. From there, we can more clearly see the other areas of potential error that Pastor Dana falls into after starting with a shaky foundation.
Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth. (2 Timothy 2:15)
Our desire to use wisdom as we listen to things like prophecy starts with being a student of the Bible.
We can commend Dana for his wisdom about the world because of the 40 newspapers he reads every day. I can only imagine how much more time he spends reading and studying God’s word as well. Clearly, his constant study of world events has given him some measure of deeper understanding about what’s happening around us.
Likewise, we should be willing to devote ourselves to understanding God through what He’s revealed to us. Everything we need to understand Him is found in the Bible. He gave us this incredible gift so that we can not only understand what’s good, but be able to use wisdom to see error in things that appear good.
The more we immerse ourselves in His word, the more we’ll see it all coming together. We’ll see God’s bigger picture as the Holy Spirit brings us illumination and wisdom. And in the end, we’ll be able to honor Jesus Christ by placing His truth far above everything else demanding our attention.
The brethren immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea, and when they arrived, they went into the synagogue of the Jews. Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so. (Acts 17:10-11)
The Bereans were praised because they didn’t just accept someone who said they knew the truth of God. Regardless of what their emotions or other beliefs told them, these people didn’t just accept or reject what was said by the apostles. They compared everything Paul and Silas said with God’s inspired word, only accepting it as truth when it was clear that they truly, accurately, and authoritatively represented God.
Pray that we can be worthy of that same praise as we evaluate claims of prophetic dreams. The subject is certainly interesting as it easily captures our imaginations and wonder. But if a prophecy isn’t clearly from God and aligned with the Bible, it’s simply not worth our time.

Addendum 1: First of all, thank you to everyone for your thoughtful responses, whether in the comments or through emails. Whether you agree with my evaluation or not, it’s been uplifting to see so many brothers and sisters able to share their thoughts while still bringing glory to God in our attitudes and choice of words.
Some have cautioned about how people may walk away from this article. With the surprising number of people reading it, I’m prayerfully inclined to agree with their concern. James 3:1 reminds me that I will be judged more strictly for my words, so I want to make sure everything I say is ultimately bringing people to a closer, more meaningful walk with Christ.
So if you’ve read this article and find yourself agreeing with what’s been said here, I want to encourage you to remember one thing:
Therefore be on the alert, for you do not know which day your Lord is coming. But be sure of this, that if the head of the house had known at what time of the night the thief was coming, he would have been on the alert and would not have allowed his house to be broken into. For this reason you also must be ready; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour when you do not think He will. (Matthew 24:42-44)
Many who have listened to Pastor Dana’s video have been reminded of our call to be mindful of who we are in Christ. This world isn’t meant to be where we set up residence and find our satisfaction. Whatever our thoughts on these dreams, I don’t want anyone to walk away from this article and go back to living for themselves instead of remembering God’s purpose true purpose for their lives.
I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me. (Galatians 2:20)
We are servants of Jesus Christ, and our life belongs to Him alone. Many have been shocked into action, realizing the importance of understanding theology, training their kids, and having a biblical worldview in a world that is so in love with sin. I don’t believe God gave these dreams for that reason, but it’s clear that God is using this situation for His ultimate glory (as He always does).
Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. (1 Peter 1:13)
As followers of Christ, we are called to glorify Him with our heart and mind. We are called to bring Him glory through not only our words, but our actions. We are called to have a life that accurately reflects where we find our hope and satisfaction. Above all, God wants us to be purposeful in what we do and how we view our future.
If you’ve read this article and agree with my points, don’t think you’re off the hook for remembering the reality of your call as a servant of Jesus Christ. Don’t be one of those people who are “spiritually fat and lazy.” I don’t believe Pastor Dana’s dreams came from God, but that doesn’t eliminate our call to surrender every area of our lives to Christ.
preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths. (2 Timothy 4:2-4)
Talk to your kids about Christ. Keep searching God’s word for truth. Share the gospel with people as though they may die tomorrow. Encourage others to join you as you walk in holiness and reject the things of the world. Find your hope, security, and satisfaction in Jesus Christ alone.
Don’t do these things because someone had a dream. Do them because you want to bring glory to God by doing what He calls you to do.
Addendum 2: There have been some great comments and questions since posting this article. If you don’t want to read my responses in the comment section, I’ve done a podcast and some article where I address the most common questions.
Interesting that you have such a vast knowledge concerning prophecy and at the same prophesy that Pastor Dana is wrong. You don’t know! Are you willing to say if I am wrong I should die as you intimate in your psycho analysis of Pastor Dana. What are your credentials? Why not display them? What are you trying to hide? Where did you get your PHD in Psychology? Have you taken any theology classes? Who called you to be a critic of another persons dreams or visions that will occur in the last days? Was it you or God? Did God tell you to psycho analyze Pastor Dana? You are speaking from your experience or lack of it. Have you had dreams that did or didn’t come true. Please send me your credentials. And, no! I am not sendind you any blood money as you request! boejetz@gmail.com
Hey Boe, thanks for taking the time to respond. I’d encourage you to read it again if you have time (I know it’s long), and try to actually look at what I’m saying. A lot of your outrage might be from a knee-jerk reaction more than a logical, biblically-sound disagreement with what I’ve actually said. And I know this can be a sensitive topic for people, so it’s understandable.
-I didn’t prophesy that he’s wrong (primarily because that’s not what “prophesy” means). I held him up against the timeless truth of the Bible, and agreed with God’s word about what it means to be a prophet. I’d encourage you to engage with that above all else.
-I didn’t say he should die. I pointed out the gravity of what it meant to claim to have a message from God, and that no one would ever flippantly give a prophecy when they understood how serious it was if it wasn’t truly from God. Paul gives us clarity on how we should handle things like false teachers and false prophecies, and it’s certainly not to do harm to them.
-I don’t know where you see psycho-analysis in anything I said, unless you refer to my logical conclusions on why someone who reads 40 newspapers a day might have dreams about world events. But that seems more like common sense than psychology. Feel free to read my series on psychology and the Bible if you’d like to better understand why psychology doesn’t hold the answers we need.
-Do you believe people need credentials to study and apply God’s word? Does Paul say to only use discernment if you have a degree, or does he call it a sign of spiritual maturity? Will you provide the credentials that allows you to tell me I’m wrong for pointing out that someone else is wrong?
-Those who donate money are people who are encouraged and want to see this ministry grow. That’s fine if you aren’t one of them 🙂
Thank you for posting your point of view. I don’t agree. I want this to not be true as much as anyone. However, In order to look at things the way you are looking, I have to say that this man, this pastor, does not know the voice of the Lord. He has made it very clear, that he knows when God speaks to him. I believe that when he said take it with a grain of salt, he was simply saying that he understands that some people will hear him and not believe. That each of us will have to pray and rely on the Holy Spirit to guide us moving forward. He knows that his word alone is probably not enough.
There is purpose behind this prophecy. The purpose is to prepare the people of God and give them a look at the enemies plans ahead of time so we can war against them in the spirit.
As part of the body of Christ, I will not attack the image or character of a fellow brother in Christ or pastor. Like you said, he does seem very genuine. I believe it when he says he knows the voice of the Lord. Who are we to downgrade that into simple gut feelings or intuition?
Also, having an “ear to the ground“ in December, in no way, could have helped predict riots from George Floyd’s death. COVID-19 and that event had nothing to do with each other. People can miss it, but I would rather war in prayer, then question / accuse. It’s about time the body members of Christ stand up and have each other‘s back. Even if we think he might be wrong. Doesn’t Jesus have our back? Doesn’t he pick us up when we fall?
We all know the end times are coming. They are predicted in the Bible. Will we accept when the warnings appear, or will we be blindsided? Will we still be questioning each other, or will we unite and take care of one another? Now is the time to figure that out.
Let’s destroy the enemies plans in prayer with the word of God. Let’s tear down principalities and powers because we do not wrestle with flesh and blood. Even if it doesn’t come to pass, it doesn’t mean the prophecy wasn’t true. But we definitely should consider this a test. Because there are times ahead where we will need to be prepared.
http://propheticdreams.home.blog/2020/07/05/a-great-test-is-coming-3/
I agree with you. Too many opinions about it, too many discussions. But the key point is : get ready, sanctify yourself, choose Whim you belong to and be alert. Christians get lost in vain discussions instead of seeking the Lord. Be blessed
Amen to JD’s comment. Even if some of us as Christians think that God does not speak prophetically today to warn his people of tragedies be they in America or Brazil, we need to look at the times and be discerning. We need to know what it takes to save a person, a people, or a nation. 2 Chron 7:14, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” Yes, if God’s people, Christians, Jewish believers, Christ Followers, whatever name you want to call yourself as a believer in Jesus Christ, if you, we pray, we can change things in our land. God can hear and will heal as He promised.
I have always wondered how the USA would be weakened for the armies of the East to surround Israel to destroy the apple of God’s eye. David Wilkerson was given a prophecy titled the Vision’ and another ‘Set the trumpet to thy mouth’. I believe the USA must be weakened or destroyed in order for Israel’s to be surrounded.
We don’t need anyone’s dream, God has spoken through the scriptures and already told us sin evil deception hate and apostasy would grow in the last days. Everything he said about his dream can be found in scripture and by observing what’s going on in the world. Rely on God’s word not dreams.
Read Acts 2:17. In the last days God says..I will pour out my Spirit on all people, Your sons and daughters will prophecy, your young men will see visions your old men will dream dreams.
Check out “article 2” on my 2nd addendum to see why that verse may but mean what many assume it does.
What if….. Since Pastor Dana says he reads 40 newspapers from around the world every day…. God used him to Warn people of what is to come…. since he clearly states it was a Dream and NOT a prophecy, maybe God is using him as a Watchman? When a Watchman sees danger coming, he is called to warn the people, correct? Your whole Article was based on Prophecy and how to discern if the Prophecy is from God. In the Old Testament God used Prophets to deliver his word, but does not God say he will give visions and dreams in the End days? So maybe because of how educated Pastor Dana is on world news, he is using him to warn us of the coming danger.
Thanks for your reply, Yvonne. I’m on mobile right now, but I’ve answered a recent commenter about “dreams in the last days,” if you care to read my thoughts on that.
And Dana’s insight may be worth listening to, but not because he’s dreaming dreams. People are making huge decisions based on the vague dreams of one man without making any effort to seek out other sources or listen to experts. People are putting him in the role of a prophet, assuming his warning is directly from God, and responding accordingly.
If people trust his insight because of his intelligence and logical conclusions based on the state of the world, that’s fine. But that’s not the level of authority people are giving his words.

Hey if what Dana is saying is real. and it is – Eliyahoo is already here. Most folks use the the Jesuit mispronciation, ghashing of the teeth name ” Elijah”
If Dana’s dream is true, then Elijyahoo MUST BE
here. And he is and I bear witness of his immense power. You’re gonna want him on your side. 856 776 1176
I think you were spot on Ray. Everybody has been sending me this video and taking it for truth without question. I have been telling people the same thing in regards to this prophecy, prosperity gospel, and the similarities between America, from it’s founding unto today, and Israel. We will not truly know if this prophecy is true until November. If it is true, then let his will be done. If it’s not, then it wasn’t from God. It’s that simple. God bless you brother.
I have had many visions during my long life. They were always 100% accurate. But God never told me something bad without leaving the door open for change. So vision of my mother in fender bender with yellow VW in Portsmouth Tunnel, I didn’t call her. The next evening I told her. Her response was, thanks a lot, that happened earlier today. I should have warned her……but the point is, if He told me something bad, it was because He expected me to change it. In this Pastor’s case, he should be asking us to pray. Prayer moves mountains. Repentance has averted tragedy in the past. I don’t disagree with your analysis. His dreams are not like the visions I saw. But I believe I will pray even more for this country.
I think you have no understanding of the difference between a dream and a true prophetic message that God has given a man.
You wrote some much that you ran it in the ground about pastor reading 40 papers a day.
Why did you have to beat that in the ground ? I came away with the feeling that you wanted to squash him ( Dana ) like he was a little bug and you’re jealous that God has never used you in this way. You are stiff necked !
I absolutely don’t believe this is jealously. It’s wisdom.
Acts 2:17
That’s it.
The videos circulating were made recently, so that presents a problem: a good portion of Dana’s rant, oops dreams, is reporting past events. He is uncertain if he is a prophet? No pattern, just all over the place. That too is not biblical. Jim Jones had dreams, MLK had a dream, and now Dana’s got dreams. Next.
The first thing I didn’t like about the dream was the white figure. Dana wasn’t SURE it was holy. That could have been deception. Secondly I’ve never liked the idea of China or Russia occupying the USA. It would be a blood bath. Modern Americans would become tough like Yankees. 1/2 the illegals would flee. The other 1/2 would accept communism. I think this whole invasion thing is wish fulfillment. Be careful what you wish for.
Acts 2:17
In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.
From this verse, it’s clear that God never mentioned “prophets” but ordinary people having dreams and visions.
And the truth is, alot of people are having dreams and visions. I’m sure there’s alot of people who might be seeking attention, but not all of them.
Also, the great mystery babylon nation mentioned in revelations.. The description fits perfectly with America. Everyone knows America won’t be destroyed from the outside.. But if we are torn apart from the inside first, we are open and vulnerable to the outside.
America is the most powerful nation standing in the way of the world government mentioned throughout the bible. The UN is calling for world government, several countries are calling for world government.
Until the US is brought to heel or destroyed, there will never be a world government. Which is why we have marxist terror organizations operating in our cities with no pushback from globalist politicians.
These are facts and go hand in hand with bible prophecy. Also, the bible mentions to watch world events and keep an eye out for the signs Jesus himself gave us!! Everything is falling into place!
Thanks for the comment, Kyle. Several other people have pointed out Acts 2:17 as well. I’ve done a podcast episode and 2 articles where I address this, plus many other questions people have had since this was written. I can understand if you don’t agree with my explanation of Acts 2:17, but check out my bigger response below and see why Acts 2:17 isn’t as much of a “gotcha” as it may initially seem.

Dear Ray,
Thank you for your objective, nonjudgmental and bible based review of Pastor Dana’s dreams. I saw his video for the first time tonight and as a Christian trying to make informed decisions, it created angst. Your words remind me that our God is sovereign and His word is clear. I now know that my role is to pray, properly prepare and trust.
Sincerely,
John R.
The first sentence in Acts 2:17 says:
“In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on ALL people.” – emphasis added.
To me, “ALL” means Christians, Atheists, Jews, Muslims and everyone else in the world. I am part of ALL and have not had any visions, prophetic dreams or anything else of a prophetic manner.
While I do believe we are in the last days, I don’t think this sentence has happened yet. So I don’t believe that Pastor Dana’s unverifiable dream is from God.
Take into consideration that even if he did have the dream when he said he did, psychics have been doing this as well and I don’t believe they are from God either.
Sylvia Browne in her 2008 book wrote: “In around 2020 a severe pneumonia-like illness will spread throughout the globe, attacking the lungs and the bronchial tubes and resisting all known treatments.”
Jeanne Dixon predicted in a book published in the 70’s that 2020 would be the end of the world: “Armageddon will come in 2020, when the False Prophet, Satan and the Antichrist will rise up and battle man himself.”
Again, I don’t believe that psychics are from God, just incredibly lucky guesses. People win the lottery all the time also making incredibly lucky guesses. So its not impossible.
Oh, and one other “prediction” I forgot to mention was the 2011 movie called “Contagion”. Its almost a play by play script on the current Coronavirus. The movie is about a virus that starts with bats in China and quickly spreads to the world. I have seen the movie and what nearly blows me away is that in the movie, the CDC is telling people to “Social Distance.” A phrase I never thought existed prior to 2020. Its a really dull movie, but I think you can watch it on Netflix.
I totally understand your view, and I admit that I don’t fully buy his phophecy either. But, you have to remember, if this is referring to the time immenint to Christs return, we still have several years to go through a BUNCH of stuff.
And on my post, I also said I believe America is the new mystery babylon referred to in the bible that sits on many waters and the world has taken part in it’s sins, etc…
The bible says this nation will be destroyed. Nothing much else is said about this nation. America is a major power in the world, and if we truly believe in the words of the bible, you have to ask yourself, why is America not mentioned?
It seems pretty obvious to me.. We are the babylon whore nation, that will be drstroyed before the emergence of the one world government.
Several RED Flags
1. This Pastor claims to be reading 40 news papers a day (both liberal and conservative ). What the heck is he reading all these news papers for if he is hearing Gods Voice? Bible says dont entangle yourself in the affairs of the world (2 Timothy 2:4)
2. In Pastor Dana’s Prophecy I dont hear any hope or way out. He literally says to stockpile food and guns.
Every Prophetic word has a Warning and a Way out . For Example : Jonah prophesied about the judgement to Nineveh and the people repented in sackcloth (Jonah 3:5). Once Jonah’s prophecy didn’t come through God had to actually rebuke the Prophets attitude .
3. The Devil is the Vulture and the Church is a possam in his Prophecy. The Church has not role , part or power. All we are told to do is brace ourselves, stockpile food and guns and play dead “Brace yourself”. There is no desire or encouragement for church to unite or repent or pray together.
This is not the Role of the church on the earth .
Look at 2 Chronicles 7:14 , the church is in control and has a key part to play in the direction God will move on the earth.
14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
4. “If my prophecy doesnt come through then blame it on bad food i ate” . No…its more serious than that. In the old testament they used to call people like this “False Prophets” and get stoned.
You cannot just pump fear into people homes and scare people into stupid decisions like stockpiling food and ammo. Probably christian will stay home and not Vote this November because of this crazy prophecy. People will hide in home or mountains with guns instead of going out and voting . Maybe thats the intent of the devil with this kind of Fear.
Ultimately dont put your Trust in man’s voice or some prophets voice. Many well known so called Prophets prophesied that Hillary Clinton would win in 2016, because like Pastor Dana were reading 40 news papers a day and looking at the polls.
Read the word , pray and hear God;’s voice yourself. Yes, we will have difficulties and troubles in this world. But God has not fallen off his throne or is throwing America to the trash can.
This is what God is saying about your future that you can trust…..
Jer 29:11
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Great analysis Elijah, thanks for adding to the conversation. I know Pastor Dana has come under fire for having no hope in his message, but I hadn’t considered your 2nd point as well. I’ll need to chew on that one.
That verse (Jeremiah 29:11) wasn’t mean for us, it was meant for the nation of Israel. For some reason it’s always taken out of context.
A very true point. I actually talk about that in my article and podcast episode “How to Read and Understand the Bible” ( https://onwardinthefaith.com/reading-the-bible-well-a-3-step-guide-2/ )I explain how to use good exegesis, with Jeremiah 29:11 as the step-by-step example of why we need to understand the historical context of a verse before applying its truth.
@Eligah, and Ray Burns.
Thanks for sharing Elijah. You’ve added some insight into what Ray Burns already did a really good job at informing us. I’d first been invited to watch Dana’s YouTube video from a trusted source. Then I was also able to catch Dana on episode 7500 of the Omegaman (YouTube) radio show . He was a guest along with Pastor Robb Wood. Host Shannon Ray Davis led the conversation into asking Dana about more details regarding his visions. Dana had mentioned more insight regarding his political views, 2nd amendment, taking up provisions, knowledge of world events, his ministry, family, Facebook connections, etc. He’s developed quite a following with millions of views and people contacting him for personal spiritual insight from around the world. Obviously he was encouraged to run with this new found “calling” to reach all of the masses to hear God’s profound warning. Dana continued in the interview and then mentioned about his pre-tribulation belief but didn’t have the opportunity to expand. I became angered and was prompted by the Spirit to be cognizant of my feelings. I’d been bothered by his message even before seeing further insight to Dana’s beliefs on Omegaman. His message was attempting to instill fear within my spirit of an incoming imminent event brought on by God’s judgment. His belief in the Ribera-Lacunza-Macdonald-Darby-Scofield eschatological scheme assured my spirit he’s been deceived. I felt tremendous relief when Dana’s enlightenment regarding his end time theology was decerned. The Spirit of Truth is so willing to teach us to test all sprits against His Word. It’s heavy in my heart that potentially thousands can fall victim of believing any Christian Authority whom is teaching false doctrine. As a result I’ve been very cognizant and the Holy Spirit has veered me from being deceived by the religious spirits, operating in the spirit of antichrist, thus far. The time necessary to examine over forty news sources a day would be exhausting. Time designated to searching the Word of God accompanied by the Spirit of Truth for the Truth, would be a more respectful priority of time. Shannon had Dana Coverstone on his show again last night. Dana discusses another dream he’s had since last Friday in detail. This will keep you further updated on Dana’s ambitions and the encouragement he’s receiving from his new found followers. Thanks again for your thoughts on this, God Bless.
I can not believe the number of people who have felt compelled to try and “undo” any “damage” Rev. Coverstone may have caused. He was very clear that he was not a prophet. For that reason alone, I do not see why so much effort was put forth explaining that he is not a bona fide prophet. Again, Coverstone made it clear he was not a prophet. The Bible stated young men – visions, old men dreams. Duh-h. Coverstone had a dream and he shared it. Coverstone never said the future was sure to follow what he dreamed, instead he said if this doesn’t happen you can call me a fool. I hope Rev. Coverstone will not refrain from sharing dreams in the future, but based on the criticism he has received he will probably think long and hard before sharing next time.
We must, be ready to die or be raptured starting one second ago. Even so, come Lord Jesus.
I’m struggling with what you wrote here Wayne because it just seems like anyone could take advantage of that.
I’m not saying Rev. Cornerstone is lying or anything of the sort. He seems like a genuine man.
But we have to have a higher standard then someone just saying: “I’m not a prophet,” right?
I find it hard to believe that actual False Prophets will declare themselves in ways that will be obvious to us. In many cases, their job and purpose is to deceive and lead believers astray. They will know the right things to say and will probably sound like they are being biblical.
Rev. Cornerstone may have said “I’m not a prophet,” but he is essentially sharing a dream of the future that he admits he believes came directly from the Holy Spirit. He believes it will happen and he believes there are steps people need to take to prepare. That’s sorta like chucking a spiritual hand grenade while also wiping his hands of the responsibility for what it causes.
Like – I don’t want to bash Rev. Cornerstone, but he’s basically saying:
“I had a dream that came true. I’ve now had another two dreams that predict what will come true. The Holy Spirit sent me these dreams. These dreams show our nation on fire and believers in peril. I will be preparing and believe you should to…..OH BUT – I’m not a prophet. We know what the bible says about prophets and I’m not one of those! So don’t hold me to those standards – but definitely, maybe consider what I’ve said. DON’T THINK OF IT AS PROPHECY – but maybe act on it like it’s prophecy. Which it’s not. But could be if it wasn’t.”
That’s sort of a: If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck – it’s probably a duck even if it says it’s not.
I believe Dana just gave us description of his dream which is a warning . His first dream did come true and so far part of one of his last dreams is coming true. No coins. Recently 2 friends of mine were given gift cards for change because they used cash and the store had a shortage of what?? … coins! By him saying he is not a prophet doesn’t mean his dream is not prophetic. He did say he knew Gods voice when he heard “Brace yourself”. I know people want to analyze and know everything and I get it , who doesn’t??…but we are not GOD. If you remember the first sin of man was taking the bite of the apple in garden of eden. and that was because why?? I’m also very leery of anyone that walks around and says “ I’m a prophet”. I don’t think that is how God uses prophets.
I do know that we need to pray for our country and be prepared at ALL TIMES .
Hi Boe. Even though the author appears to be a cessationist, his response is fair and balanced, and much kinder than required. I’m an old time Pentecostal of more than 40 years; have been used before to interpret the dream of a puffed up man [which was a knuckle ringer] so I’m well aware that people use their own interpretation based on all sorts of other beliefs. Where was the repentance that the Holy Spirit would engender. God is about restoration, not war mongering. A siege mentality is from another spirit, and is not the way of the CROSS. Even though this ‘pastor’ says he’s not a prophet, he has stepped into the prophetic ring and must come under biblical scrutiny. As such, his dream/s come out of a response to his [probably vast] knowledge of current events and spread a spirit of fear and war. He needs to take a long hard look at himself. Hiding behind any disclaimer is cowardly and deceptive. Other so called ‘prophets’ from the NAR camp are pushing this agenda as well. This posturing comes from their eschatological belief system. I don’t believe for one moment that they are speaking from the Spirit of God, because this is not His ‘modus operandi’. Boe, you need to get a grip on reality. At the end of the day it matters little whether his predicted outcome comes about or not. We all need to ask ourselves about the spirit behind it.
Dana did not ask you for money whatsover.
in old Testament, Jeremiah gave a prophecy to many jewish people that they will be taken to Babylon for 70 yrs and people laughed at him then little while later, Babylonian armies took many Jewish people to Babylon, just like God told Jeremiah it would happen.
Acts 2:17
Ray, thank you for your analytical and respectful response to Pastor Dana’s video. I watched the video and took it strongly to heart. He’s clearly intelligent, articulate, and seems to be a credible, rational man of God… as do you. You make a strong and thought-provoking point about ‘informed forecasting’ vs ‘prophecy’ and gaining that perspective was helpful for me. I agree that now is a time for discernment and prayers for wisdom. I also agree that we need to ‘brace ourselves,’ stay faithful, and set our eyes on the Kingdom of God.
Thank you for those kind words, Deborah. That was very encouraging to hear.
Pingback: Podcast version of my response to Dana Coverstone’s prophetic dreams – Onward in the Faith
I believe there is a huge different between sharing a dream versus prophecy. He shared a dream. He wasn’t prophesying. The poor guy had a dream and shared it, now he’s being chewed up one side and down the other by so many that claim to know better. I compare this to God using David to take down the giant. People laughed at him and doubted what he knew. God never does it the same way, from my understanding anyways.
Question, do you always get it right or do you believe God covers what we get wrong with grace. As a pastor I can look back through my sermons and see where I didn’t always get it right. So thankful it’s the His job to take my word and make it do what it’s intended to do and that’s to divide soul from spirit.
Just something to chew on !
““ ‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.”
Acts 2:17
Hannah
Hey Hannah,
I know Pastor Dana is struggling with the fact that something meant for his small congregation has gone so viral. I hope it’s clear that I don’t find him to be malicious, nor am I trying to attack him. But people around America, perhaps even the world, are making decisions about the future based on these dreams. He may not want to accept the title of “prophet,” but that hasn’t stopped people from applying it to him. My goal was simply to encourage people to use discernment.
As for dreams being different than prophecy, I understand where you’re coming from. However, God seems to imply that they’re linked in Jeremiah 23. Here’s specifically what I’m talking about, though it’s always important to read it within the bigger narrative of chapter 23, as well as the entire book of Jeremiah:
“I have heard what the prophets have said who prophesy falsely in My name, saying, ‘I had a dream, I had a dream!’ How long? Is there anything in the hearts of the prophets who prophesy falsehood, even these prophets of the deception of their own heart (Jeremiah 23:25-26)
I guarantee I get things wrong on my blog. I’m confident every pastor throughout all of history has gotten things wrong. However, there’s a difference between those who make mistakes in their hermeneutic because they are limited people trying to understand an infinite God, and those who claim to deliver something directly from that perfect and holy God.
Thank you for your thoughts!
Who made you judge ?
“As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming; but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ, from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.” (Ephesians 4:14-16)
We can’t avoid being tossed about by waves without judging what others say against the truth of God. We can’t speak truth in love without judging these things against truth. We can’t grow together as a body of believers if we aren’t willing to sharpen one another and hold one another accountable against that same truth.
Don’t confuse “judging” with “sentencing.” The very act of speaking against someone for “judging” requires you to judge that person in the first place.
I read everything and you have some valid points but I was in prayer 2017 and I clearly heard God say store water for something catastrophic was going to happen. I did. I didn’t know when or what was going to happen. It is for such a time as this. I made it known to everyone. Since then, I’ve heard three more prophecies. One was told last year in December regarding the virus which every part of it was true. The two from this year is saying some the exact same thing God has told me and I can clearly hear His voice. Everything God has spoken to me in a seemingly audible voice has come to pass. Because it bares witness, I believe what he says is true. As I was reading your post, I heard of the news (today July 10th 4:30 Pm central time) banks are having a shortage of coins and it maybe obsolete. This is the exact same thing he mentioned in his dream. I say get prepared, brace yourselves, hide yourselves in the Lord for I truly believe that it will come to pass and May God protect us all.
It’s difficult to argue for or against someone’s feelings and experiences, which is why I tried to pull my belief from the Bible. While it’s wise to be prepared for any disaster, feeling told to store water 3 years ago could have been justified with any kind of water supply disruption. We live in a world broken by sin, and it’s not unlikely to have a need for water at some point.
As for the coin shortage, the news was talking about the effects of the US Mint shutting down since April. Again, it’s not a prophecy to simply look at what’s happening and have the wisdom to see where it’s obviously going.
The world is going in a bad direction, and I’m not telling people to just go on as though nothing is happening. I just want people to use wisdom in how they respond to any source of information.
Hannah, very good and balanced reply. I also admire Dana for sharing. As one of those old men, I too I am blessed with dreams that I know are of the Lord. Often the difficulty comes with interpretation which can be difficult if one doesn’t know what they’re doing and truly know the Lord quite well.
Blessings, Jack
Here’s the real problem. People watch his video, they don’t pray and ask God, is this you? What do I do with it if it is? Hence, we have people responding in fear. I believe it’s a warning and I believe it was from God. I also believe he is human and he knew people would discount him and pick him apart. In saying that, he tried to defend himself instead of letting the Holy Spirit do that for him which then triggered this whole idea that he should just know that it was God. Come on y’all! I commend him for even speaking it. So many of us cower in fear and remain stagnant or paralyzed and miss out on SO much.
As far as dreams and prophecy being linked, yes and no. Sometimes it is sometimes it isn’t. Let’s not make the scripture black and white. There is so much we think we know, then He comes along and says oh ya, let me show you how much you know. 😆
I believe Dana simply shared a dream. Period. Let’s not make it theological. That’s when we miss out on the Holy Spirit. Just my personal experience and opinion. Sometimes I wish that all we had was the Bible. No school no commentaries no opinions no titles. Just the word and the Holy Spirit.
I understand you aren’t trying to be malicious. I just encourage you to be careful to not lead others to discount what God gave this man. Encourage them to pray and point them to Jesus. It’s really simple but we complicate it.
Food for thought. We are to call out false prophets and those that speak what they believe is truth but is blatantly not in line with the scriptures. Deuteronomy makes it very clear how we know if someone is a false prophet. I believe here in America that we fail miserably in this area because heaven forbid we call someone out and offended them because we have presented God in an imbalanced way. He is love BUT he is also Just. We can’t continue to present an unbalanced God to the people. The same God that gives is the same God that takes away. He is sovereign. Period.
Good conversation. No offense taken. Iron sharpening iron my friend.
Thank you for all your thoughts, Hannah. I appreciate your example of what it looks like to disagree with another believer with respect and humility.
Ray – great review of the data, and bringing things into perspective. The brain tries to figure out the days problems when we sleep. So if he is reading 40 world papers a day his brain is probably working overtime trying to solve the worlds problems. All that said I didn’t think Dana was insincere, and he is clearly bothered by the dreams and felt compelled to share them with the world. I’m not sure how I would act if I kept having strong dreams like that and things came true from previous dreams.
My biggest issue with his predictions is fighting. Christ and the apostles are pretty clear we are to lay down our lives for our enemy. In the end I hope he is wrong, but genuinely feel for the guy for having the dreams that seem to have negative, and destructive implications for the world.
I appreciate the caring heart behind your reply, JC.
Everything we need to know about Christ return can be found in Mathew 24, Mark 13,Luke 21, Rev 6 and Rev 13… We are called to be ready and not to be speculating. May God help us..
Ray,
Thank you for your well-articulated thoughts. It seemed like Dana was simply communicating a dream he had similar to the dreams of Pharaoh in Genesis 41 or Nebuchadnezzar in Daniel 2. Whether we find the dream to be prophetic or even accurate in telling us what is to come is our role to play. Dana is clearly not a prophet, he says as much, he is simply the one with the dream. When looking back at Genesis and Daniel the question then becomes:
1. Does God give prophetic dreams to non-prophets?
2. Does God issue warnings through those dreams?
3. Does God expect the dream to generate a change in behavior because of it?
If the answer to those three questions is yes then we have to ask if that is happening here with Dana. To be completely honest and transparent, I do see some consistencies. Those consistencies may be there because they reflect the very nature of God’s handiwork or they could be there simply because Dana spends a lot of time immersed in both scripture and geopolitical events. It is at that point that we have to find out what is the Dream asking us to do. The dream is asking people to “brace” themselves or in other words “be ready”. That gives us another point of reference to check in scripture. Is the action being requested inconsistent with what God has asked of a believer in the past or does that act of preparedness show some consistency with what God has asked.
In Matthew 24 Jesus uses the revealing of future events to specifically tell the disciples to remain vigilant. He spoke of these future events not because His disciples could do anything about them but specifically so His disciples could prepare themselves by “being ready” (Matthew 24:42-44). In Luke 21:36 He tells His followers to “be alert at all times.” In Mark 13:32-33 He tells people to “be on guard.” All these commissions of readiness happened in the context of future things to come.
The bottom line is that from what I can tell Dana’s dream is not asking the believer to do anything different then what God Himself has already asked of us in scripture. To choose not to “be ready” because we don’t agree with how a biblical principle of preparedness was delivered is more of a discussion of approach then substance.
I am pretty sure you were not saying this but please encourage everyone to always remain vigilant. Whether Nineveh fell or not was up to God. Whether we accept and obey God’s direction in scripture is up to us. But when we do, that is when God’s glory is seen by those around us most.
Thank you again for your thoughts. I really did appreciate your approach.
In Christ,
Joe
I’ve been chewing on your response, Joe. I think there’s wisdom in your last words – while I stand by my evaluation of these dreams, those who agree may find a sense of relief and let their spiritual guard down. Christ calls for us to always live as though we’re in the last days – dream or no dream, our Savior’s words remain. Later today I’ll word on an addendum to remind people of that.
Thank you, Ray for sharing. I believe both you and Pastor Dana are very sincere. I thought, too about the fact that Dana is very well read about world events. I don’t believe that a dream that comes true necessarily means the same as prophecy. But we know intuition is a spiritual gift and obviously Dana appears to have this.
I believe God is using Dana to make Christians aware of how serious these current events are. I am not surprised that God would use someone who is unknown rather than choosing a well-known TV evangelist. Joseph interpreted an Egyptian’s symbolic dream. Though Dana’s first two dreams turned out to be literal, his dream for this fall could have a symbolic meaning. I believe he did the right thing by sharing with us. I do not believe dreams like this happen at will – it happens without expectation and for a reason. This could be God’s way of showing mercy to us by helping us to be prepared.
Thank you for your thoughts. While we may disagree on our assessment of the dreams, I think we can both agree that God has used this to remind people to take their Christian walk a bit more seriously.
Time will tell. If any part does not come to pass, Covington is being deceived. If it all comes to pass, he is not. Jesus’ first warning to His disciples in Matthew 24 was not to be deceived. Satan can and will appear as an angel of light using every means to deceive as he is the father of lies.
I believe our call as Christians is to glorify God as His witness during these end times. Paul encountered every kind of evil encounter possible and was beheaded. What makes us think the same outcome can’t happen to us as His faithful witnesses?
Being a Republican or a Democrat is not the issue. Being faithful to Jesus no matter the circumstances is our calling. Many may not be able to prepare as Covington suggests. I think of the elderly and infirm.
Be true to our Savior who died for us. As Paul writes to Timothy: “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind (2 Timothy 1: 7). Be strong and take courage. God has our back! Heaven is worth any sacrifice!
Everyone here has presented a logical and thoughtful essay on what Pastor Dana and Mr. Burns have said. Who is right and who is wrong? No one knows but God. I do however believe, as Mr. Burns pointed out, that scriptures tells us that prophets knew for certain and with confidence that they had received a message from God. The prophets of the bible spoke with confidence, “thus saith the Lord.”
The books of the apocrypha were good books however the prophets of those books never said, “thus saith the Lord”, and therefore were left out of the Holy Scripture. Bottom line here, as Christians we need to ask for wisdom, guidance and discernment. If we are truly believers, scripture tells us that God will answer our prayers and give us what we ask for if it is aligned with His will.
Just my humble thought
Great thoughts David, especially with why (most) Christians reject the Apocrypha. Thank you for adding to the conversation!
I have one exception to what you said: Dana was speaking of taking up arms because of the defunding of the police — not because of persecution. I am a mother of small children, and you can bet that if the police begin to be taken off the streets in our community, we will be taking a gun safety class and purchasing guns. We will not become sitting ducks. That is NOT turning the other cheek or laying our life down for others. There is nothing unscriptural or political about being able to protect one’s family.
I’m curious, Ray… if this had happened to you:
1. had the same dream in December (wondering if it should be shared or not with others)
2. watched it all unfold in front of your eyes
3. then had the next 2 dreams…
… would you have been compelled to share randomly to the world? my guess is, no, lol.
(I have a brother in law, who is a pastor, that raises his eyebrow at Dana and basically thinks he could use some sleeping pills, lol…)
If God was going to give someone a dream to share it would probably be to one who He knew would share it.
I’m not sure if this dream is from the Lord or not, but it has reminded me to obey God’s command in scripture to be ready for battle. (especially spiritually, which I should be doing, anyway). The circling vultures in his dream remind me of the birds in the parable of the sown seeds (Word)… I once heard that birds (along with scorpions, snakes and beasts) are often a symbol in scripture for demons.
We have decided to keep the freezer and pantry stocked (stuff I eat anyway) about 6 months ahead, buy an extra shot gun (with some extra ammo) grab a water purifier, and make sure our propane tanks are full…. not too much extra money or work.
If there is a hard time ahead, I want to be prepared to be God’s merciful hands and feet to the elderly, single moms and all the neighbors in our culdesac … many who may not know Him.
If nothing unfolds, my grocery shopping is done for the next 6 months!
I’m also going to be more purposeful in teaching my 3 little boys about putting on the armor of God (ordered a dress up suit from amazon this AM), and making sure they hear and understand the Gospel well.
I’m glad he shared his dream, because it’s encouraged me to do what I really should be doing anyway … plus, I might really have a great opportunity to minister if anything crazy were to happen.
I’m not afraid, but excited! It’s sort of silly, but I feel like the bride (in the virgin parable) getting her oil (literally) ready for when the bridegroom comes… I’ve never really been in that mode (like I am) before!
It will be interesting how the next few months play out, but God is in control… I think it would be a merciful act for Him to clue us in on some birth pangs… who knows what He’s up to. (But we know He’s always up to something good… question is… do we want to be in on it, too?)
btw… I appreciated your thoughts and insights.
Caree, it sounds like you’re taking a balanced approach. With or without dreams, there’s certainly wisdom in being prepared for any kind of disaster. After all, we live in a world broken by sin, and no one is safe from calamity or suffering.
Caree, I appreciate your comments and agree.
You state that true prophets always knew that their message was from the Lord. Yet read Jeremiah 32:6-8 (ESV):
6 Jeremiah said, “The word of the LORD came to me: 7 Behold, Hanamel the son of Shallum your uncle will come to you and say, Buy my field that is at Anathoth, for the right of redemption by purchase is yours.’ 8 Then Hanamel my cousin came to me in the court of the guard, in accordance with the word of the LORD, and said to me, ‘Buy my field that is at Anathoth in the land of Benjamin, for the right of possession and redemption is yours; buy it for yourself.’ THEN I KNEW that this was the word of the LORD.”
We will know if it comes to pass. In any case, bracing ourselves is consistent with Christ’s command to watch and be alert.
Good morning, Gary. I absolutely agree that being spiritually prepared is in line with Christ’s command (though many are viewing “prepared” in earthly, survival terms).
Regarding the passage in Jeremiah. It’s important for us to remember that our Bibles are translated from their original languages, and sometimes words either don’t translate across very well or their meaning shifts with time (consider how people misunderstand the “fear of the Lord”).
We also need to consider whether a verse or word we’re interpreting agrees with the rest of Scripture. After all, God’s word is God-breathed, and thus will never contradict itself in its original writing.
So when we see in Jeremiah 32:8 that Jeremiah “knew” it was the word of the Lord after it happened, that doesn’t necessarily mean that it was a mystery until that point. The same word for “knew” is the same word used by God Himself when He spoke to Abraham:
He said, “Do not lay your hand on the boy or do anything to him, for now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me.”(Genesis 22:12)
Do we think God didn’t know until that point that Abraham feared God? Or would we say that Abraham’s act was the completion of this knowledge? Likewise, it makes sense that Jeremiah knew God had spoken to him, and the fulfillment of this prophecy was the capstone of what Jeremiah already knew.
I have a few articles for anyone interested in thinking more about this. One is about how to read and understand the Bible well, and the other is for anyone who may think God DIDN’T know if Abraham feared Him until that point (meaning God doesn’t absolutely know the future).

I appreciate you taking time to analyze things and put it in a new light. I also heavily agree with you that our pride in our country and politics have gotten in the way of our thinking sometimes. My only question is, how would him reading all of these newspapers and having a gut feeling about these things relate in any way to him dreaming about specific months such as March or June? While I personally would like to believe that this will not come to pass and don’t think it will (or at least not to the extent that he has spoken) I am a bit concerned with the way things are going in our world. I will be honest that when I saw that video of his I became scared because obviously I don’t want those things to happen and I’m sure many others don’t either, and I know that that is the last thing that the Lord wants. While I would love to believe what you were saying, and agree with many points, the thing about the specific months was my only issue and I wanted to make sure I come at this from both sides.
One thing to consider is what those months meant within the context of the dream. Remember that neither Covid NOR George Floyd’s deaths were actually predicted. Rather, it was just a breathing sickness and some kind of civil unrest – things that many people saw coming.
So while it seems eerie that specific months were called out, the reality is that ANY month in 2020 could have been predicted to be bad. Dreams are vague and open to interpretation. While I don’t believe Dana is being manipulative, we can compare this vagueness to psychic hotlines or horoscopes – anything you say can appear to come true as long as you give just enough detail without committing to anything specific.
Compare that to dream interpretation in the Bible. Joseph, for example, was very specific both in his own dreams and in the dreams he interpreted for others. He told of specific events at specific times. He said things that not only seemed impossible considering the circumstances he was in, but had detail that couldn’t be guaranteed with 100% accuracy without it coming directly from God.
Again, we don’t see this clarity or certainty with Pastor Dana’s dreams. The things that have been predicted by one man have been predicted by atheists as well. The imagery is vague, and the interpretation can be fulfilled in any number of ways.
Experts have spent months warning that Covid will have another surge. People have seen civil unrest stirring. Whatever happens in November, one political party is going to erupt in chaos. These things aren’t impossible to predict, and because of that we must ask whether a prophetic dream or interpretation lines up with Scripture.
(I hope that makes sense – I had to write this with a very busy toddler on my lap!)
Well done, Ray. I agree with your well thought-out points, and solid grasp of Scripture.
Thank you for the encouraging words, David.
Please excuse my cynicism but I must be a prophet! I guessed ahead that Dana had his and other books to sell! I find it predictable that these dreams etc only happen to end time authors! If a simple living person/nobody/homeless were to speak out, I may be more prone to listen, with of course judging it against the Word of God.
To be honest I’m bored! I’ve heard the prophets speak out when Australia had wildfires, of course after 10 years of drought and no burning back of undergrowth by the greens for 20 years,
It was obvious that fires were an inevitable follow on.
A prophet self appointed ‘apostle’ publicly went to Canberra here and annointed a parliamentary treasurer with oil, in obedience to a word he would be prime minister…the man disappeared into oblivion, then the actual prophet said he had word that he himself would be prime minister, he left politics after he was hardly voted for, and is still to this day, issuing prophecies on a regular basis, still has his loyal followers…
Sadly there are many more…
Excellent and thought provoking response, Ray! I’m still pondering the original video and this response.
When I first mentioned the original video to my wife, she immediately responded with, “‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.” And then she watched the video.
I think it’s great ‘food for thought’ in any case. Never hurts to be prepared, and we all could do with getting closer to God.
Thank you for taking the time to leave your thoughts, Aaron. Your last statement is right on target.
As for the Acts 2:17 reference. I’ve had others mention it, and digging into it requires much more discussion than a simple comment. All I’d encourage anyone to do is consider a few things when it comes to interpreting a verse in its context:
-Why is Peter is quoting Joel at this moment? (explaining why those who were given the Spirit at Pentacost seemed drunk at 3 P.M.)
-What does “last days” mean? (Have the end times lasted for 2,000 years? Is “last days” a reference to a dispensation? Does his statement mean these dreams will continue, or is it an event that’s meant for a specific time just like the blood/fire/smoke in the sky that he references 2 verses later?)
-Are these signs meant for all people at all times? (Notice that in Acts 2:43, these signs and wonders seem to accompany the Apostles)
-What is the purpose of these signs he’s referencing at the moment? (Acts 2:37-38 shows people responding to the gospel and Peter telling them to repent)
That’s my version of a quick response. I hope it can benefit you and your wife as you continue seeking wisdom!
Hmmn? Here is just my .02, Mr. Ray Burns. I am in no way on either of you or Pastor Dana Coverstonrs”s side. However, you did not nitpick, but you did “cherry pick”. You should have mentioned ALL the examples that Pastor Coverstone saw in his dreams. Seems as if you are “interpreting dreams”, are you? If so that is a beautiful gift to have! Your interpretation of his dreams is from “your” eyes only. Here is why. When the Pastor said that …”Trump” was no where to be found, your interpretation was that Trump lost the election. HA! My interpretation from that is ….Trump won, and he was whisked off due to safety with all this calamity happening. No, I will not ever vote republican. Next, you did not mention the most obvious point of the dream, Washington was on fire! Seems to me Washington is on fire because Trump won the election, and people are burning it down as a result? I also did not see where you acknowledge Pastor Cornerstone for nailing the first dream in December, this dream happened, so does this through out your theory that he is a false prophet. Sounds like the false prophet is not him?
I also notice Mr. Ray Burns, you did not mention any of your prophetic dreams or visions? Hmmn?
Who are any of us to bad mouth a prophecy? I’m glad Pastor Cornerstone at least took the initiative to say…if I’m wrong….Which leads to what if “you” are wrong Mr. RAY BURNS? Are you gonna be labeled the false prophet? HA! We all had better watch what we say against anyone covered under the blood of Jesus. You wanna know why? Because unless sweet sweet Jesus has revealed to you and a whole lot of other clergy who is really covered by his blood then you and Pastor Cornerstone are in the exact same boat together, as well as the rest of us! Allow me to leave you with this testimony as to how the Lord protects his people……..Someone in the Midwest who loves the Lord, while still being in the world. She was getting “setup” by a plot of “other” supposedly Christians, and again, sweet Jesus stepped in on her behalf, and saved her from them. One was guess who? A Pastor, the other one was an ordained clergy. They died unexpectedly of covid 19 virus, all the while she had been in their presence before the social distancing was in place and she was covered by the blood of Jesus and is alive and well today to write my .02. Be careful Mr. Ray Burns of who are speaking against. I know first hand the scripture of Psalm 91 that…”lest thou dash thy foot against a stone” and the angles lifted me up in protection, because the other side to the scripture was someone else’s demise, and they were ordained clergy. Yes, I asked the Lord to forgive them al the while he protected me. I apologized for them having a haughty spirit, and thinking they are above God. As the saying goes……when you dig one ditch, you had better dig another one for yourself………….
Thank you Ray for a thoughtful response to Pastor Dana’s video. A friend had sent me the video and I found it to be sincere but the references to stocking up on ammo and guns didn’t set well with me. I prayed about it and the next day I revisited it, and my spirit rejected it. I knew nothing about Pastor Dana and decided to look into his Facebook page and church website. What I found on his Facebook page was a lot of political propaganda and conspiracy websites. He had many posts from a website called ZeroHedge.com… a far right wing website that originates from Bulgaria. When I looked into this media website it too referenced some of the items Pastor Dana mentioned in his dreams. Things like the U.S. Mint not making coins, buying gold and silver, and articles about buying ammo and preparing for disaster. Looking at the information that he regularly consumes and a post made by Pastor Dana pictured with an automatic rifle saying, “…To any candidate that plans on taking what I will use to defend my family, my faith, or my Constitution, I will not comply.” just did not line up with the teachings of Jesus and do nothing to bring Glory to God. It seems to me that these worldly influences are making a great impression on him and you may be correct that this is more of a prediction than a prophecy.
My prayer for anyone that watches the video is that God gives them wisdom and discernment. And for babes in Christ I pray that they are not scared or confused by his words. I also pray for Pastor Dana because as a Pastor he has a great responsibility to care for God’s sheep and to feed them well. As new creatures in Christ we are not to be conformed to this world… But transformed by the renewing of our minds. Political and nationalist views have nothing to do with the Kingdom of God. We all need to remember that. Thank you again Ray!
Thank you for that excellent perspective, TJ. I had visited his page to get a bigger picture of him, but apparently didn’t scroll far enough. Do you happen to remember the rough date of some of these posts? Others may do well to see it themselves.
Yes, I took screen shots to share with my friend who had sent me the video initially. The post I referenced regarding the controversial picture of Pastor Dana with an automatic rifle with commentary appeared on his FB page October 4, 2019. He has so many posts from the Zerohedge website, and there are a few posts from December & November 2019 that were a bit concerning to me. No mention of dreams, about this virus, or riots at that early time. Nor does any of it seem to be reflected in his sermons at church over the first half of the year. For someone who has a lot to say on FB I found that curious.
I believe the Bible teaches us to test everything and to see if it lines up with the word of God. I believe that includes things we see and read on the internet. As children of God we are to be lovers of truth… truth not as we see it, but Truth as God declares it. And that is my purpose, to seek the truth. Based on what I’ve seen I think Pastor Dana’s words are a man’s prediction of things to come based on the information he consumes from the world. As a Pastor this kind of message can be harmful and misleading, as my brother in Christ I will continue to pray for him.
At the very least this whole thing has served as a reminder to me that even though we live in such a politically charged time… with divisions and fears running deep. None of this matters. We can be civically minded and patriotic, but we should not be consumed with it to the point of wrath. Let’s remember that we do not belong to this world and our allegiance is to God Almighty alone. In the end what matters during the time we have here is sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ, Bringing Glory to God, and Loving one another in the same way that Christ loves us.
Again… thank you for your loving and measured response to this issue. I received it that way.
“As children of God we are to be lovers of truth… truth not as we see it, but Truth as God declares it.” Wonderfully said. Thanks for your comments and wisdom.
T J, four points :
#1. Zerohedge.com is not a “far right wing” website. It sounds like your Extreme Liberal sensibilities were offended!
#2. How did you know that the rifle pictured was a “automatic rifle” and why was that a bad thing???
#3. You said that Pastor Dana’s statement to defend his family, faith, and Constitution did not like up with the teachings of Jesus. Really?! What about Jesus commands in Luke 22.36-38 to sell clothing and buy swords and to get prepared??? What about the Apostle Paul’s injunction to take care of your family and if you don’t you are worse than a Unbeliever???
#4.You said that “Political and nationalist views have nothing to do with the Kingdom of God”. Really?! The Kingdom of God and Christians SHOULD influence political and nationalist views so that they will reflect the Kingdom of God and Gods will for a just and righteous society. If we don’t influence the laws of the land the unrighteous will and will eventually take away our right to share The Gospel and worship freely, which is allready happening now because my fellow Christians don’t vote or worse, they vote for Liberals/Leftists/Secularists/Marxists who hate us and our Faith.
Hello Mustang,
I will do my best to better to explain my comments, while rightly dividing the Word of Truth and applying it to my comments below.
2 Timothy 2:15
Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth.
Regarding Zerohedge.com… as a Christian I want to consume and share information that is truthful. God does not operate with deceit and lies… only Satan does. Satan is the father of all lies. So when I saw that Pastor Dana read and shared information from this website quite often, I was very concerned. And some aspects of the stories that were created on this website were also included in the dreams Pastor Dana spoke about. Literally all reporting on this website states that it is an extreme right biased conspiracy website that has repeatedly published false, misleading, and debunked information. It is a registered website In Bulgaria founded by Colin Lokey also known with the pseudonym “Tyler Duden” (a character in the movie Fight Club), Daniel Ivandjiiski, and Tim Backshall. If you have information to show that it is a credible source of news and information please share that with me. Thank you!
My concern with the FB post of Pastor Dana lies in the long statement that accompanied it. In it he shows an extreme affinity for his gun ownership and second amendment rights. And goes on to say that he would use his gun to defend his family, faith, and constitution. As a Pastor that is a perverted statement… as Christians we are to be peacemakers like Jesus, and this is not how we defend our faith. There is no example or teaching from Jesus for us to take up arms to defend our faith in this world. The Bible teaches us that we will be persecuted in this world, even Jesus did not defend Himself… which he could have. But did not.
Matthew 26:53
Don’t you realize that I could ask my Father for thousands of angels to protect us, and he would send them instantly?
They persecuted Jesus and the world will persecute us that are called by His Name. Our faith is solely in our sovereign God… and not in ourselves or any weapon, or any government in this world.
Matthew 5:9
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.
Matthew 5:10-12
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
Matthew 5:44
But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,
2 Timothy 3:12
In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted,
2 Corinthians 4:8-9
We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.
You stated that Jesus commanded (the disciples) to buy swords and to get prepared… You referenced Luke 22:36-38 as justification for using weapons or as preparation for defending ourselves. Are we to take that scripture literally? No, the scripture must be put in context to understand its meaning and to be referenced properly.
Luke 22:36-38
He said to them, “But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one. It is written: ‘And he was numbered with the transgressors’; and I tell you that this must be fulfilled in me. Yes, what is written about me is reaching its fulfillment.”
The disciples said, “See, Lord, here are two swords.”
“That’s enough!” he replied.
Jesus did not request swords to fight or defend himself, he requested them as part of the fulfillment of the prophesy in Isaiah 53:12 that says; “(Jesus) was numbered with the transgressors.”. To fulfill prophecy as well as to further force the hand of the authorities, if necessary… Jesus and his disciples had to appear to be criminals in order to justify the arrest and His eventual execution.
When the disciples tell Jesus that they have two swords Jesus replies, “That’s Enough”. If Jesus expected his disciples to actually engage in sword fighting, two swords would obviously be completely inadequate. But for the mere purpose of appearing to be a band of lawbreaking zealots, two swords would be enough.
When Peter used the sword against those who were arresting him, Jesus responded “No more of this!” and healed the man’s ear that was cut off. Jesus rebuked him and told him to put it back in the sheath where it belongs. (Luke 22:47-51)
When Jesus appears before Pilate he gives the fact that his followers are not fighting as proof that his kingdom “is not of this world.” In this light, whatever Jesus had in mind in telling his disciples to bring swords along with them, it wasn’t for them to ever use them.
Prior to Jesus’ arrest, we have many scriptures that teach us about Jesus’ character and they instruct against violent self-defense. So the idea that Jesus would encourage believers to use weapons or promote violent self-defense just does not line us with the Word of God. Jesus is the Prince of Peace… as the Prophet Isaiah said, “His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace” (Isa 9:6).
Matthew 5:38-44
You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’ But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also. And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well. If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles. Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you. “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.
Matthew 26:52
Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him, “for all who draw the sword will die by the sword
As Christians we need to remember what Paul says in Ephesians 6:12-13
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm.
There is a sword that God has given us and He DOES want us to use It. It is truly a better sword… “the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God” (Ephesians 6:17).
Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Regarding Paul’s words in
1 Timothy 5:8
But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.
This is referring to caring for those in need… especially our families. To profess faith in Christ while refusing to care for people in need is a dead faith. Basically showing yourself to be less virtuous than a non believer who can possess the grace to care for those in need. It doesn’t refer to caring for our families by arming ourselves and defending them in that manner.
Politics will not solve the world’s problems… they will only be resolved when Christ becomes the supreme authority over the entire world through the government of God! We are taught in the scriptures to respect and obey governmental authorities… unless government laws violate a command from God. We are also instructed to pray for our leaders, and to pay our taxes. There are no biblical examples for believers to change, set up or take down the political system of their nation. The “citizenship” of Christians is in heaven, meaning God counts them as citizens of His coming government.
That doesn’t mean Christians cannot be civically minded, we most certainly can… but our involvement should be balanced. Being overly consumed with politics is not wise. We live in this world but we are not of this world. Our time and resources can be better used sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ and doing the work that God has called us to do. Those works are never done in vain.
I share your concerns for justice and peace in this world. But because Satan has free rein and influence over this world, ultimately there will be no peace, there will be no justice until Jesus returns.
You said that if we don’t influence laws in the land that the unrighteous will take away our right to share the Gospel and to worship freely. Which you said is already happening. I’m curious about that because I don’t know of any Christians that cannot practice their faith. Would you please share your thoughts on this? Even so, as we see in the scriptures God commands us to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ. These two examples in Acts 4 and 5 establish the principle that Christians must disobey government when governmental laws violate God’s commands.
Matthew 28:19-20
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.
Luke 24:46-47
Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, and He said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ would suffer and rise again from the dead the third day, and that repentance for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.”
Acts 1:8
. . . but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.
Acts 4:18-21
And when they had summoned them, they commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus. But Peter and John answered and said to them, “Whether it is right in the sight of God to give heed to you rather than to God, you be the judge; for we cannot stop speaking about what we have seen and heard.” When they had threatened them further, they let them go (finding no basis on which to punish them) on account of the people, because they were all glorifying God for what had happened . . .
Acts 5:29
But Peter and the apostles answered, “We must obey God rather than men.
Can anyone stop us from worshipping God? Is that a true concern for believers? We have access to the Father through Jesus and we’ve been given the gift of the Holy Spirit which dwells within us as believers… we are the temple of God. We are the church. We even have the example of Paul and Silus while in prison praying and worshiping the Lord.
1 Corinthians 3:16
Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?
John 4:23-24
“But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”
Acts 16:25
About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them.
It is my belief that our Christian faith exceeds any particular political party or ideology. I, like most people, do care about the kind of people we elect as our leaders and the laws they create… but I have no interest in aligning myself with any particular political agenda. We should not let the cares of this world be a cause for attacking each other and creating divisions… it’s foolishness. This world and it’s problems are temporary and as ambassadors of the government that Jesus will establish when he returns to earth… imagine if we applied the same level of interest, resources, and passion for spreading the Gospel and sharing the love of Christ until His return!
2 Corinthians 5:20
We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.
Philippians 3:20
But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ,
John 17:16
They (disciples) are not of the world, even as I am not of it.
John 18:36
(Speaking to Pilot) Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now my kingdom is from another place.”
Revelations 11:15
The seventh angel sounded his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, which said:
“The kingdom of the world has become
the kingdom of our Lord and of his Messiah,
and he will reign for ever and ever.”
This is a great response; thank you for taking the time to write this out.
This was a really great response! Thank you for writing this out!
Hi Mustang. There were marauding lions and bears on the road the disciples were to travel, apart from thieving people. Nobody denies the right to defend oneself, if the need arises. Neither is it silly to stock up on essentials. It’s how far are you willing to take it. Sabre rattling leads to war. Looking from Australia, Americans appear to be tearing their beautiful country apart. One must remember that judgment begins in the house of the Lord [1 Peter 4:17]. Where are the churches going so wrong. We all need to be willing to investigate that issue ourselves.
Thank you for your thought-out response, Mr. Ray. I work overseas with the church and have teammates that know Pastor Dana well and have vouched for his authenticity and sincerity as a believer and as someone who would never draw attention to himself. Though you haven’t challenged that here, I wanted to add that for other readers because it was helpful information for me to begin thinking through what he has said.
I think the ideas of him prophesying as a prophet and sharing a dream are being conflated here. You acknowledge that he doesn’t claim to be a prophet, yet you hold him to the standard of prophet because others “think” he is or because his dream fortells the future. I am not sure that is the best way to discern his dreams and it seems very unfair to him. Kings that had dreams in the bible weren’t necessarily followers of the Lord, and so we know they were certainly not prophets just because they had a warning dream, so why are we putting that on Pastor Dana? A dream is simply a dream. He was very clear. He is not a prophet and is just sharing his dreams because the first one came true, so he feels responsible. He can only be blamed for trying to be obedient to God. How many times do we try to be obedient and just hope we truly heard from the Lord on those actions? I have had many dreams, in fact one as a child that called me to do the work I am doing now with the people that God showed me in my dream 34 years ago. Am I a prophet? Not in the least. Do I still hear from God through his word, through other believers and through dreams? Absolutely. But that doesn’t make me a prophet, neither does sharing my dreams with others. I have never been 100% certain my dream was from God. It was more of an inner knowing, but my flesh has always gotten in the way and caused me to obey what God was saying in those dreams with much trepidation and caution. That is actually a sign, I believe, of someone who wants to be very careful to obey the Lord, not a sign that the person is wrong.
What I wish with all the blogs that are popping up, that are judging Pastor Dana’s heart, intentions, dream etc… would simply say, “People of God, the Lord could be speaking to us here, let’s pray, fast, brace ourselves, and preach the Kingdom of God until He returns.” The western church is currently an unprepared church for tribulation and endurance. THIS is the message we should encourage. You don’t need a dream to see the writing on the wall. However, the dreams Pastor Dana had are waking up the American church and reminding us that there is a bigger plan in this life we lead and that God’s kingdom is coming. And as you said, that is important for sure!
You mentioned he could have dreamed this because of his immersion and knoweldge of what is in the news, but when you look at the details of his dream, can you really say that? Masked rioters, full hospitals, borders being built in cities, and so much more. Even more so, the dates are pretty uncanny! If it was predictable, I think others who are also immersed in politics and world news would have made the same predictions.
As believers, we are to test the spirits behind anything supernatural we encounter. I did not see in your post anywhere that you sought the Lord to hear from him on whether this is from God. If you know you will be held more accountable as a teacher to others, then I hope you also sought Him before teaching against a possible warning from God. This post, even with your addendum, could quite possibly be encouraging others to NOT listen and not brace themselves as the dreams tell us to do, at least that is what I got from your post. If you did say this somewhere, that you had diligently sought God and that He told you to speak out, then I apologize for missing that. Here is what I read from your post: “A mark of Christian maturity is the ability to discern – to use wisdom as we evaluate truth claims and judge whether they honor God. So as we hear a claim of prophetic dreams, we glorify God by thinking critically before we call them truth. So here are some important things to consider as we evaluate these prophetic dreams and determine whether they’re truly a message from God.”
I see what you are saying, but I think a better sign of a mature Christian is that he is prayerful and discerning through the power of the Holy Spirit as he judges not in human widsom, but through the wisdom of the Lord. I am not saying you didn’t do that, but I didn’t see you claim that in your post. Though critical thinking is a fantastic skill, it is not a spiritual gift and certainly does not indicate spiritual maturity and would, in many cases, disregard any spiritual gift in action.
I have prayed about it and though I didn’t hear a word from God on it, I haven’t felt a red flag in my spirit either saying, stay far away from this. I just feel compelled to be more intentional with what I am teaching my children and be bolder sharing Christ. Even on the field here, I need God to give me boldness to do what we are here to do. His dreams definitly stirred passion for the Lord in me as well as made me more watchful and prayerful, asking God what does He want ME to do with this. I am not completely in line with Pastor Dana’s advice, but he never said that advice was from the Lord, that was his own human wisdom and between him and the Lord. So, I am not one to gather guns or gold.
Ultimately, we will see in December if the second dream was from the Lord. I don’t think it hurts anything to wait and see, however, we should also brace ourselves and really press into the Lord. This is biblical for all believers no matter the times we are in. As far as his other dream went, about the coins, I am seeing so many signs this week of a national coin shortage and then Forbes wrote an aricle about a race to develop digital money and that seems to confirm his other dream. So let’s wait and see, but I am trying to brace myself. Thanks for allowing us to comment our thoughts. I certainly mean no disrespect to you. Please forgive me if it comes off in an unfriendly way.
Hey Tammy, I found NOTHING unloving or unfriendly in your reply. It was a great example of what it looks like to disagree to the glory of God.
I didn’t talk about seeking God in prayer for 2 reasons. First, because I see it as so natural and obvious that it doesn’t occur to me to point it out directly (just like I don’t think I point out that I’m a Christian or believe the Bible is divinely inspired, but I assume it’s implied). And honestly, I’m accustomed to an article getting 15-20 views from people who already know me, so I don’t worry about explaining every aspect of myself in that regard. Second, no one is going to be convinced because of my personal experience in prayer. I can’t teach and equip people through my own experiences, and how I feel after prayer doesn’t come before what’s clearly taught in Scripture. To prove my point, there are people on both sides saying “I prayed and believe he’s right” or “I prayed and believe he’s wrong.” Personal feeling and experience just isn’t enough.
As far as dreams in the Bible go, we also have to recognize that those who interpret those dreams do so with direct authority from God. Pharaoh had no idea what his dream meant, but Joseph both interpreted it AND gave a call to action. Neither came from Joseph’s opinion, but from God.
Pastor Dana seems like a man of great humility, and I expect I’d greatly enjoy talking to him about things like holiness and sanctification. However, he’s interpreting a dream that he believes is from God, and thus I tried to hold all of that up to a biblical standard. People disagree with my conclusions, but I hope I laid enough biblical foundation for them to know why, with the Bible as their highest authority, they disagree with how I came to that conclusion.
I’ve handled the accuracy of his dreams in a response to another commenter, but it’s important to realize that nothing specific was actually predicted in those months. Covid hit the world, and even America, before those months. I linked an article where scientists had been warning about something like this happening. As for masked protestors seeming specific – we saw masked protestors in Hong Kong last year, so the very idea of it isn’t new, especially to a man who would have seen those images regularly. Likewise, the coin shortage has been talked about for awhile.
Thank you for the great thoughts, and for sharing them with such gentleness.
As a unrelated note, where are you currently serving? I have great admiration for those God raises up to literally give up everything to go where He calls them.
(Sorry for an abrupt end to my main reply, but I have 4 kids and duty calls!)
Hi Tammy. As I said previously, You cannot utter anything in the Lord’s name without judging it. [1 Corinthians 14:29] This is not personal, but a command from the Lord through the Apostle Paul. To not judge any claim that God has spoken is to defy the Lord. Nobody wants to do this for fear of offending, but one must consider the weaker in faith and protect them.
Hello Ray,
Both you and Pastor Coverstone make interesting points. There’s so much to digest. It’s almost to much for a simple man to digest.
I’ve seen the pastor’s video several times and read your contribution to this story, but only once. I skimmed the replies on this page since reading them all would simply be too much for me.
My question is one that no one seems to have asked and I may be very wrong about this. Where are the men with whom Pastor Coverstone says he shared his dream in December? Have they said anything to confirm the pastor’s sharing of his experience? It seems as though this would be a powerful way to add credibility to his prophecy. He may not call it prophecy but I do.
Jesus had people surrounding him (not just the his 12 very close followers) who confirmed what he said and did. I’d really like to hear from those who witnessed his declaration in December about his dream. Those 12 did not hesitate to speak out. I’m sure none of the men who heard him at the time would not hesitate.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Hey Mark, that’s a great question. I think I addressed this in my podcast, but he did release a video on his Facebook page of two men in his church confirming it. They didn’t go into specifics of what happened in December, but there’s a confirmation out there that he did have a dream.
But again, I don’t doubt that he had a dream. Many have called him an outright liar, which I think is unfair, emotional reaction that doesn’t engage with what’s happening. I’m just pointing out that if prophecy is no longer active today (and by extension, prophetic dreams), then there is an incredibly simple explanation that doesn’t challenge a consistent interpretation of the Bible.
There have been others who do believe that prophecy still exists today, and it seems like they’ve offered their own praise and criticism of the dreams. But as I’ve explained, I believe the Bible teaches otherwise, and so I’ve given a walkthrough of how I understand why something that seems so impossible isn’t all that supernatural.
Thanks again Ray. After I wrote my comment to you I looked a little more and saw the video you mention in your reply.
Two things are missing (at least two), there is nothing about the question asked by the interviewer. As a natural sceptic I have to ask whether the question might not have been a leading question, allowing the guests to answer the way they did.
Had I been asking the question I might have said something like; “Can you confirm that Pastor Coverstone told you about a dream he had just had regarding events that he believes will (might) take place in March, April and May of 2020? And does that dream accurately reflect what he has posted in his YouTube video?”
I might also have asked how many men were present in the prayer group and will any of that number agree to speak out in the way that these two men have.
There has been so much written about dreams. Way too much. So many conflicting theories, so many fanciful guesses.
While my beliefs are strong and solid I also know that both the Old and New Testaments were written well after the events they relate actually happened. I may not debate the legitimacy of the events but I recognize that embellishment is the natural result of the passage of time. This coupled with the fact that the Bible was not finalized in (almost) its current form until the 4th century AD (I think).
If you’re interested I can send you a copy of my essay on the origin of our belief in God. It relates to dreams and prehistoric man could find no reason for the “life” of dreams other than the belief that there is a higher power present in the world.
Thanks for taking the time to reply.
Mark
I agree that the video confirmation wasn’t great. I tried not to read ill intent into how things were phrased since, again, whether he actually had a worldview-fueled dream isn’t the greatest factor at play. But I very much appreciate your apprehension and desire to see more than what is immediately apparent.
Feel free to shoot me an email with your essay ( contact[at]onwardinthefaith.com ). I don’t know when I’ll be able to read it, but I’ll certainly plan to once things calm down and my blog goes back to only getting a few views every day.
Ray,
Excellent, discerning and accurate essay on Pastor Dana’s dream. I find him sincere but misguided and double minded. I pray for him come December as we as the Body of Christ must lovingly correct him. I so appreciate your spiritual discernment on this issue. God Bless!

Thanks for setting a good example of having a loving, balanced approach to disagreeing with him. In December, I suspect many people will still feel vindicated because there’s little doubt that America will lose its mind after the elections, regardless of who wins the presidency. But it doesn’t take a supernatural message to see that coming.
Ray,
I hesitated writing another comment but I have truly enjoyed reading everyone’s perspectives. Having said that, some of the comments actually made me feel uncomfortable and I think I know why.
Speculation about internal motivations and individual intent can be a challenge without a very careful understanding of a person’s lifetime of experiences. If we stick to using scripture as a measuring rod to help us understand what Dana says he saw we are less likely to get off track.
The author of Revelation attempted to explain what God was showing him and understandably I am not sure whether John ever really did fully comprehend everything he was seeing. He simply explained it as he saw it. Because of that I found myself less interested in Dana’s interpretation of his own dream then what was actually happening in the dream. From there I can use scripture to determine if its congruent with the God’s word or if it is another person’s attempt to add to it or take away from it (Deuteronomy 4:2,Revelation 22:18-19) .
When looking at the description of what he saw, I couldn’t find much that contradicted or added to the character or nature of God or His scripture. Dana’s interpretation might have been controversial and uniquely geared towards himself but I can’t yet determine how the dream itself would contradict who God is or what He says in His word.
We all have predispositions that we use as a premier to interpret the circumstances we see each day. While I find the theology of dispensationalist an acceptable attempt created by men to better categorize and understand why God’s timing was the way it was in the past, I tend to become more cautions when tempted to personally use it in a way that artificially restricts God’s timing or decision making in the present and future (mostly because the present and the future bring the potential for some incredibly creative acts of God each day). The lack of the Pharisees and Sadducees to guard against their own pre-conceived ideas of how God could work, rather than trying to better understand the nature and character of who God was in scripture, likely contributed to why they could not see or accept the King of kings as a very poor child born in an animal shelter.
The one thing we do see as a pattern in scripture is that the Creator is incredibly creative. In whatever way we think He is going to engineer the circumstances around us, it will likely be done in a way that is far more creative then we had ever thought of or imagined (Ephesians 3:20). What preparation does is help us to be ready for God’s creative moments in our lives and the lives of those around us.
Too often I get lost in the noise and circumstances of my own pre-conceived ideas and forget to remain steadfast on God’s intent. A call to readiness is an outstanding message and makes perfect sense. How we do that is what we each of us will have to work through with God. Even if Dana’s interpretation of his own dream is wrong (which I have no idea if it is), it does not invalidate God’s very clear message of being ready (Matthew 24:12-13).
In Christ,
Joe
Joe,
I really appreciate your response to both Ray’s post on Dana’s dreams. I align with your comments more than the other post’s that have been written. It’s a wonderful and mysterious thing how God made each of us different and discerning. It’s not like Paul and Peter didn’t have any disagreements with each other and the other discerning children of God that they worked very closely with to make sense of the happenings in the world that surrounded them.
Ray,
Thanks for your interpretation of Dana’s video, I had been struggling with what to do with it and how to approach the information from a biblical perspective but had not had enough time to delve in as deeply as I would have liked to. Your insight has provided me with a good foundation to start from.
Thank you brothers in Christ for making this about Christ, I appreciate your perspectives and may we all grow closer to HIM, and depend on Him, who is in CHARGE and able to overcome!
Steve
Thanks for another thoughtful reply, Joe. I’m not sure which comments were distressing to you, but if you’re referring to mine then please use the “Contact Me” button and let me know if you see an area where I need to be corrected.
“The one thing we do see as a pattern in scripture is that the Creator is incredibly creative.” Amen.
You may be right in this case (I hope), but in principle I must point out that the New Testament tells ‘the listener’ to ‘weigh up’ prophecies. That strongly implies that NT prophecies are NOT like confident OT prophecies and so that is why It is wise for modern day prophets to give their prophecies ‘with a grain of salt’. That is compatible with the need of the full corporate body of Christ rather than super Elijah-like prophets. I think the angle there is no need for modern day prophecies is not at all consistent with Scripture that IMO implies we see ‘dimly’ until the Lord returns not until ‘we have Paul’s letters bound in a book’.
Thanks for your thought, Paul. All I can say is that the Old Testament also called for Israel to judge prophets based on their words and how it aligned with God’s truth. I’ve quoted Deuteronomy’s call to test prophets. Jeremiah 23:25-40 is another great example of God calling out those who claim to have dreams that weren’t given by Him, and why Israel’s poor judgment led them into false beliefs.
In the middle of this, He says:
“Behold, I am against those who have prophesied false dreams,” declares the Lord, “and related them and led My people astray by their falsehoods and reckless boasting; yet I did not send them or command them, nor do they furnish this people the slightest benefit,” declares the Lord. (Jeremiah 23:32)
God loves truth. God’s people have always been asked to use their minds, not their emotions, to judge whether something is truly from God.
“But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.” (2 Peter 1:20-21)
The world has always had people claiming to represent God. I think there are even genuine believers who accidentally mistake their feelings or opinions with the clear, revealed truth of the Lord. All we can do is see what God’s entire word reveals and hold people by that standard, even if it doesn’t align with our own traditions (and I mean that for my own traditions as well).
Mr. Burns,
I thought I was the only person left in America that had no desire to equate or conflate a political party, a president, or America as a nation with God’s chosen and highly favored anything.
When I read your line about the danger of putting politics before Christ I threw my fist in the air and said “Praise God!”
I remember the moment Pastor Coverstone was wrapping up his video and said what he did about defunding the policy, hyper inflation, civil war, the 2nd amendment and “Trump gone missing” because that was the moment I relaxed my shoulders and said “oh, I see now. Yeah, this all makes sense now.”
I’m tired of people that should know better thinking that God needs America somehow, or that in some sense America is the new Israel, or that America is the last thing standing between outright unrighteousness taking over the earth. That’s foolishness and I think it speaks to a church that has allowed the culture to inform its relationship and beliefs about our Savior, rather than the other way around.
America has pioneered the world in wickedness, and in some cases, that happened as a direct result of our freedoms. Does the Lord not raise up one nation as he chooses and tear down another when he’s done? Will the same thing not happen to the USA? But those that know, know that it will.
The Lord doesn’t need the United States anymore than I need a Ferrari, yet there are many people at this very moment that say they love the Lord that would shout me down and cry out heretic if they heard me say that out loud. I’m rambling at this point, but I’d just like to say that I’m thankful you’ve got the discernment and applied wisdom to parse through Pastor Coverstone’s dream while keeping a loving attitude toward the whole thing and not devolving into mockery or hatefulness.
Thank you for this write up.
Kalaus
You sound like one of the protesters that doesn’t like America and wants it to be torn down and rebuilt the way you think it should be.
God allowed America to be made into what it is today using what and who he had to do it with. If they were sinful and thoughtless in making this country into what it is today, who are you to judge how we got where we are today. If Pastor Dana got “to political “ in his response of what he saw in his dreams then so be it. He is human ! America happens to be people. Sinful and saved but many who need to be saved. There is a political force right now attacking America with terrible force. Lives are being lost and many aren’t saved.
This is what Pastor Dana is seeing but explains it in his own way. Political is the norm of today. God wants what’s left of America in any way he can get it. He needs time. America is being destroyed fast.
How can he get a sleepy people awake to do his work? The church, The body of Christ is asleep at the switch. There is no way when the government shutdown the people that the CHURCHES should have been shut down also. We should have gathered in prayer, and done what we are called to do. Our example of how the churches followed the governments edict when we have the constitutional right to assemble.
Politics is the world we fight today to spread the word.
Hi Mr. Stratmann,
I don’t hate America and I certainly don’t want to see it torn down or torn apart. I think this nation is special for a lot of reasons. Where else in the world could so many people from so many different and diverse backgrounds from every part of the planet come together and collectively wake up every morning and say, figuratively, “I may not like what you say. It may deeply offend me, but you have a right to say it”? Or “You have a right to be safe and earn a living, regardless of who you are or where you come from or what you do in your personal time”?
Where else in history or the world could so many minorities, whether religious, ethnic, racial or however we want to divide it come and really make a grand life for themselves, free from the fear or terror that the majority group, whoever that might be, will one day change their minds and lock them away in re-education camps or worse?
What I’m saying is this: I read your response to me, and I agree with a lot of what you have to say. Pastor Dana is human. America is comprised of people that carry its ideas and values in themselves and live them out daily. There are both sinful and saved in our land, and Jesus cares about every single one of us and God’s desire is to see us all turn from wickedness, repent, and be saved.
And you’re absolutely right. There are forces at work in this nation today that are working wickedness but I have to disagree that the political realm is where we fight to spread the word.
I don’t really see a precedent for that biblically. I don’t see Paul lobbying to get into the Roman senate, I don’t see Jesus accepting anything having to do with the earthly kingdoms that are fast fleeting. What I do see are, like you said, people coming together in prayer and doing what the Lord commands.
I don’t know if that clears my position up at all but I certainly didn’t mean to offend. Take care and stay safe Mr. Stratmann, I apologize for any confusion or anger I may have caused with my response.
Thanks for making me chuckle this morning, Klaus. I am very thankful for a lot that we enjoy in this country, but there’s definitely a line between “patriotic” and “nationalistic.” I think there are many Christians out there who understand the difference, but those who may not see it as clearly are much more vocal about their beliefs.
I typically don’t share what I did in this article because I don’t find it a matter worth dividing over, but it seemed relevant as we try to understand why Pastor Dana might have the dream and interpretation he did if it wasn’t directly from God.
Klaus, Pastor Dana NEVER said or implied the things you claim he did. That is very unfair of you. Those arguments of yours are called “Straw Man” and “Red Herring” argument’s and tactics. Not cool, Bro!!!
Hello Mustang,
I apologize – I think I understand where you got that impression from and it was my fault for not being more clear when I wrote my post.
If by straw man and red herring you’re talking about when I mentioned people conflating a political party or America with God, and attributing that to Pastor Dana, then please know that’s not what I intended when I wrote that.
I don’t believe Pastor Dana ever made those arguments either. I think my writing at the time came out of my mindset based on comments I had read that were posted to Pastor Dana’s video and that spilled over and because of my lack of clarity (and my ever-present assumption that everyone else knows exactly what I’m thinking and what I mean at all times, even though that is foolish on my part) it came out looking like I was attributing the things I wrote in paragraphs 1, 2, 4, 5, & 6 to Pastor Dana. That wasn’t my intention.
Thank you for pointing that out to me and I apologize for any confusion I caused.
Take care Mustang.
Klaus
Well written article. Great analysis.
Dear Ray,
Thank you much for your blog. You encouraged me to be a modern day Berean. I found your points not only applicable, but encouraging and convicting also. …..esp about our call as Christians to not to cling so tightly to politics. Thank you for the great biblical references. I am curious of your background. Are you also a pastor? Have you had formal biblical training? I’m only asking so I can relay this to my family who might ask.
God Bless you,
Linda
That was very encouraging to read! If someone can read this and see the value of digging deeper into God’s word, I call that a win.
As for my background, I’m not a pastor. I don’t know what qualifies as “formal” training, but I have a bachelor’s in religion and spent nearly 2 years in a college-level program called “The Theology Program” through Credo House Ministries (which I HIGHLY recommend). I’ve also taught several classes from this program at my own church. I also have some training in biblical counseling and would love to get my certification in the near future.
Otherwise, I’m “self-taught” in the sense of doing my study independently or alongside other believers. I read books, listen to sermons, watch debates, tune in to theologically-sound podcasts… anything I can do to deepen my biblical worldview, help me minister to others through my teaching, and strengthen my own time in God’s word. And, of course, I’ve written over 200 articles since I started this blog in 2019, which has been huge in my own sanctification.
But if someone is judging whether my words are in line with God’s truth, I hope none of that really matters. It’s tempting to put special emphasis on the letters or degrees that are (or aren’t) attached to someone’s name, but in doing that we may be guilty of the sin of partiality we’re warned against in James 2:1-7. I understand that training is a guarantee that the person has had at least SOME exposure to biblical teaching, but it does nothing to tell us whether that teaching was sound, whether the teaching “stuck,” and if they even apply it to what they’re saying. If someone listens to a person’s understanding of God’s word and says “Well I disagree, and they don’t have an MDiv so what they say doesn’t really matter” then there’s a huge problem.
Instead, I hope people will let God’s word be their authority in determining the validity of someone’s words. Of course, a big part of that is learning to “accurately handle the word of truth” ourselves, as 2 Timothy 2:15 encourages us to do (My article/podcast episode “How to Read and Understand the Bible” gives a breakdown of how to do just that). Likewise, you know the Bereans held no partiality about who was giving the message – they only cared about whether God’s word lined up with what they said.
Making it a bit more personal, I hope people are holding what I say against God’s word above all else, and that those people rightly understand how to read and understand God’s word so they can make sound judgments. Even in areas where I’m not directly referencing Scripture, people should be able to see my worldview and gauge whether or not what I’m saying lines up with biblical principles, or if it’s being influenced by something like my emotions or religious traditions. In the past I have discussed things like sharing the gospel with a lesbian, the origins of the soul, understanding and witnessing to various world religions, how we should think about racism… and in every article I write, the greatest thing I can hope for is that people can say “Whether or not I agree, I can tell he bases his beliefs on how he understands God’s word.” I don’t want people to be convinced because of my skilled writing, logical arguments, or whatever “qualifications” are attached to my name – I want people to be convinced of truth because of what they see clearly taught in God’s word.
I know that’s more than you asked for, but I hope it gives some clarity on where I’m coming from. Honestly, I wish the Holy Spirit had me surrender to Christ much earlier so that I could have done some more formal training. But God’s will is perfect, and I know He brought me back to Him when He decided the time was perfect. Not having formal training would have saved me a lot of frustration in navigating through truth and falsehood, but God was with me through everything that brought me to where I am (and where I’m still going). Now all I can do is keep encouraging people to understand why they believe what they believe… and I can only do that by pointing them to God’s word and letting the Holy Spirit do the rest.
Hello,
I am not a scholar, I have studied the bible for 39 years. I was saved at 20 and had no clue to Godliness. One thing that struck me that you said “today we are blessed not to need prophecy”.
Isn’t prophecy listed as a gift in Corinthians 12? Why is it there, if not needed?
And in both Joel 2:28 and Acts 2:17 it says “In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit (obviously Holy Spirit) on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. 18 Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy. 19 I will show wonders in the heavens above and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and billows of smoke. 20 The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord. 21 And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
I don’t know how to process his dream. I do know to be on watch. That what he dreamed is possible. These signs have been around for awhile. I have noticed them myself. I do believe we are in great danger of losing our freedoms that we currently enjoy. I also know the church does so much better under persecution. Fence sitters can no longer sit, they have to choose. I “grew up” in a church that taught me to be ready. We never covered Revelations, speaking in tongues or prophecy in the time I was there (16 years). When I asked questions about these things, they were down played. I have read the bible several times, going back to the Greek. Still does not make sense to me. It is there for a reason. All scripture is God breathed.
I have had people tell me that God no longer does miracles. I know first hand that He does. I was raised in an alcoholic home and had much to overcome, abuse, etc. Later in life God impressed upon me to bring my parents to where I lived. I had a lot to overcome. My husband pretty much hated my parents. My Pastor thought my sister wouldn’t do well with it. Yet the impression never left. I prayed almost constantly about this. It took 2 years before they moved to where we lived. We bought a camper and put it in the backyard so my parents had a place to stay until their home was ready. One morning I awoke and felt a surge of energy and greatly impressed to anoint the camper with oil. I prayed for awhile, but specifically remember praying that while on my property my father would see the Lords power. (My church did not preach this, and it was the first time I ever did anything like this). 2 weeks after my parents moved in, my father appeared at my back door. He was shaken. He emphatically stated “there is something wrong with your property.” I answered, “what are you talking about Dad?” He said “there is something desperately wrong with your property!” “Dad, I don’t know what you’re talking about.” He went on to explain that he gone into town and bought booze. Brought it back and it was vinegar. So he went back and bought another. It too was vinegar. So he started opening it and tasting it. Got back, vinegar. He tried it seven times, going as far as other towns. Then I remembered my prayer. You could have knocked me over with a feather. I shouldn’t have been surprised, but I was. I felt the Holy Spirit say not to tell him about my prayer. So I didn’t. I told him about it 2 years later, 9 days before he passed. He remembered. Both my parents were saved 2 days before they passed on. My point being, God still does miracles. Although, I think they are always for the purpose of salvation and not for Christian comfort. There is always purpose.
So yes, this should be a wake up call. We should not be afraid, we have the GOD OF THE UNIVERSE, THE GREAT CREATOR, covering our back. I am not afraid of what man can do to me. Satan is king of the earth, he is sneaky and desires to kill, steal and destroy. He is active, as we can all see.
2nd question. You state that he is a big fan of the 2nd Ammendment.
I will have to read more in the bible on this, but it seems to me that we are to stand up for what is right. We are to obey the governing authorities unless they contradict the bible. The civil war was fought to bring about the end of the horrible practice of slavery. To think that we should not have fought it because of the powers that be said it was ok, does not seem right. I know Lincoln ordered this. We are to lay down our lives for our fellow man. I do pray for my enemies. Jesus said He didn’t come to bring peace, but a sword. The peace we have is the inner peace we have because of the indwelling Holy Spirit. I believe we will know when the time is right to act. But, I also believe we should earnestly seek to save the lost.
Sorry for all my words, bottom line:
1. Why is prophecy no longer needed?
2. What is wrong with the 2nd Ammendment, biblically?
Thank you,
Ellen
Hey Ellen,
I’m pressed for time this morning, so I apologize that I can’t give a lengthier response to your two questions.
1: Why no prophecy?
As I said in my article, prophecy seemed to have a very specific purpose in the New Testament church. We must remember that they didn’t have ANY of the New Testament that we have today. They couldn’t consult Romans, the Gospels, or anything else to understand their new life in Christ. So God gave prophecy at a local-church level to build up the body until the Bible was complete.
So yes, the Bible does talk about prophecy being a gift. But we also must remember that things like 1 Corinthians wasn’t written to us in 2020, but to a specific group of believers. Therefore, we need to be careful about applying everything directly to us without first considering the context of what’s being said, as well as comparing our interpretation to other parts of the Bible.
So basically, my understanding is that prophecy WAS a spiritual gift in a time when it was needed to teach and instruct believers. But as 1 Corinthians 13 says, tongues, prophecy, and a special kind of knowledge will cease when the “perfect” comes. There’s a lot of debate about what that means, but I believe “the perfect” is the complete revelation of God’s word, which we now know as the Holy Bible.
I don’t want to downplay your experience, but we need to make sure that we get truth from the Bible above all, even if we have an experience that seems to contradict it. I tried to show why, from the Bible, I believe supernatural gifts were only meant for a limited time in history.
Regarding Acts and Joel, I’ll just paste a response I gave earlier:
2: What’s wrong with the 2nd amendment?
It’s important to read that statement in the context of my entire point. I don’t think anything is inherently wrong with the 2nd amendment, but we need to realize that it’s a very American law, and those who take it the most seriously are the ones who are tempted to let patriotism override their Christian identity. Christians have made comments saying they’re willing to kill anyone who wants to take their guns away – not harm them or their families, but simply taking away their guns. I know people have their justifications, but murder over items something we shouldn’t take lightly when we look at how God calls for us to respond to our opponents.
I simply pointed that out among many other statements to say one thing: If we aren’t careful, our worldview can interpret the Bible for us. I simply wanted people to see that a dream and interpretation that seemed so focused on a classically Republican mindset may not be because God is in agreement with a political party, but because the person doing the interpreting is letting their understanding be influenced by what they already believe is true about the world.
For some background … nobody talked about the Second Amendment for decades or a century before the late 1960s when the Black Panthers saw a need to protect Black folks in various towns in California going about legitimate activities. The Black Panthers took advantage of California’s open-carry law to carry firearms to protect those people, to patrol the streets, and make sure police weren’t abusing power.
The National Rifle Association (NRA) supported the Mulford Act (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mulford_Act), which introduced tighter gun control and in 1967 was signed into law by California Governor Ronald Reagan. This measure was taken to keep the Black Panthers from carrying guns as added protection.
The Black Panthers invoked the Second Amendment to try to protect their rights to carry (https://www.history.com/news/black-panthers-gun-control-nra-support-mulford-act). Gun control laws were passed nationwide regardless in reaction to the Black Panthers, which led to many other groups, many of whom were NRA members, to fear that gun control would spread to affect them as well. In a matter of years the NRA did an about-face on gun control and pushed the Second Amendment to its current widespread influence and support.
Thank you for your fair and balanced assessment. I did not find it critical or judgmental in the least and really appreciate your input. The thing about the dreams that I found most troubling and makes me question the source (I am not judging, I have been misled many times when I was POSITIVE God had spoken to me) is that I find it difficult to believe that Jesus would have us stockpile food and ammo, mainly because His overwhelming message is that we should share with others, love our neighbors as ourselves, pray for our enemies, etc. I am not a biblical scholar, but I do not believe there is a single Scripture referencing the fact that we should ever hoard manna or potentially kill people who might seek to steal what we have., which could be the inevitable outcome if we also stockpile weapons. I believe we should learn how to grow food because the pandemic has shown us how quickly the supply chain can break down and we might possibly need guns if we are forced to hunt. But I feel if even one word of the dreams is out of sync with what the Bible teaches in ALL matters, then the entire thing might be better disregarded. That said of course, we should all seek God’s discernment on the matter. My concern is that baby Christians who lack maturity and discernment though no fault of their own, could potentially be unduly terrified by such a video. I must admit, it had me going for a moment and I have walked with the Lord for 40 plus years! Which is how I ended up here as I searched for confirmation for what was on my own heart. One thing I do wish to point out, also without judging, is that the many negative comments and allegations against your post, breaks my heart because we all should be able to share our thoughts without being mean spirited. Perhaps that is the true revelation in all this. Perhaps not. It just makes me sad.
Thanks for the great comments, Karen. The call to horde items seems to be concerning to many. There’s certainly wisdom in being prepared (after all, we’re all just one moment away from a disaster completely changing our lives), but the heart behind WHY we’re doing it is absolutely important.
Immature Christians in my own life was a big concern for me as I wrote this. Ephesians 4:14-16 tells us how important it is to not get swayed by every “wind of doctrine,” and that’s really hard for Christians who aren’t as mature in their faith. That passage is a good reminder of why we need to always be careful about what we accept as truth. It also reminds us why we need to teach and train other Christians to think with a biblical worldview that filters everything through God’s word, rather than letting emotion, experience, logic, or religious tradition define what God’s word means.
As for the negative comments… I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how few I’ve actually received. I’ve really enjoyed the comments from those who disagree but still bring glory to God in how they share their disagreement. It’s certainly heartbreaking to see Christian adults behave with childishness, but God has even used those comments as an opportunity to grow me.
I had a dream a few years ago. We were in the tribulation and I actually saw my husband being persecuted. It was awful. The dream made me doubt that the rapture was coming and of course I was frightened. I know that that dream was from the enemy and not God. My husband died of cancer and so there is no way the dream could come true. I am not saying his dreams are from the enemy but what came to me when I heard it was he is describing the tribulation because he doesn’t mention God saving the church or as has been mentioned no way out. i am Pentecostal like he is and I know that some pastors don’t teach the rapture of the church. Some even believe you can lose your salvation. I don’t agree with either of these views and it makes me wonder if he does. God has been telling me something is coming and to trust Him and stay close to Him, give the gospel, pray like we mean it and READ HIS WORD!
Ray, I’ve never heard The Republican Party say the things that Pastor Dana said so how can that be a “classically Republican mindset”??? Isn’t that a Straw Man argument and a Red Herring tactic on your part??? Isn’t your own classically Democratic Party mindset bias showing through??? Are you a Democrat???
I’m not remotely a democrat. Take a breath and look at what people are saying before throwing out assumptions.
Edit: If you wonder where I fall on political issues, and why my “classically Democratic Party mindset bias showing through” is kind of hilarious, check out my articles on abortion, homosexuality, and BLM.
You can get a more clear picture of my stance on politics in general from reading the article “Stand with Christ, Not Your Political Party.” I don’t hold political stances because someone with an R or D next to their name believes it, and I have no problem calling out any political party in areas where they don’t align with God’s word.
Thanks so much for Such a detailed response to the dreams of Pastor Dana. I too believe his dreams are heartfelt and there are many things to take to heart about evil in high places, spiritual attack, etc.
I have experienced prophecy as a living, life-giving Charsim of God’s presence among his people. Prophecy did not cease with the coming of the canon. It ceased, historically, because in 2nd and 3rd centuries it was being abused by charlatans (like our prosperity Gospel leaders) and the bishops and elders said “enough!” But God has done something real since the Azusa street awakening and its spread worldwide. (Just something for you to research and experience.) real prophecy builds up the church, points to the glory of Jesus, Warns and directs his people, etc. (See 1 Cor 14)
But, I am very concerned about the American assumptions of these prophecies. 1) Donald Trump is not holding back the antichrist. There are many things in Donald Trump’s life and leadership that are antichrist (the worst elements of prosperity theology, a life of pompous bragging and lying, oppression of the alien and foreigner among us, dividing the citizenry between his supporters and everyone else as his enemy, and no repentance and humility for his sins and errors, just to name a few things.)
2) America As a nation is not God’s chosen people and is not holding back the antichrist or the end of days. In Revelation 17-18, the final enemy of God is Babylon the Great (code for Roman Empire) — a global economic And military power, providing and consuming luxury goods from all over the world, crushing the poor, filled with sexual corruption, Opposing God’s Kingdom of love and generosity.) America, Europe, The Emirates, and China are verging towards this Babylon spirit.
3) Directing god’s people to stockpile guns and ammo (literally and not as metaphors for prayer and fasting) Is extremely concerning. Are we to kill democrats when Joe Biden wins the election??? Is protecting our assault rifle cache high on the priority of God’s commands for his people? Where in the New Testament are God’s people told to kill their enemies? Where is it even instructed that we should revolt against a corrupt government? The church in China, India, many African nations, and throughout history has grown and thrived under corrupt governments.
Pastor Dana seems to think that If the USA government becomes more corrupt and crime increases, the God solution Is to shoot our way out of trouble. This alone puts his prophecy out of line with the New Testament faith of the Rabbi from Nazareth who died loving his enemies and told us to “take up your cross and follow me.”
I am familiar with the Azusa Street Revival from when I wanted to get a better understanding of Pentecostalism (not on this blog, just on my own). We obviously have different understandings and church traditions, but I appreciate that you aren’t letting it divide us.
I really enjoyed reading your points, and I hope others take a moment to consider them as well.
Ray,
Good afternoon! My name is David. I serve in ministry and am currently enrolled in a pastoral program at a church in San Diego. 1.5 years in and 2.5 to go! In fact, I would appreciate everyone’s prayers that God continues to give me strength to persevere and see it through! Definitely has not been easy lol.
This video came up in a conversation this morning with a fellow believer. I guess I was behind the power curve as I knew nothing of it! My friend asked me to look it up and give them a call tonight to discuss it. I was intrigued to find your commentary and I thank you for being bold enough to post your insights!
I’ve read a few replies (not all of them) commenting on the difference of prophesy vs. dreams. And my apologies if you’ve covered this already (there were/are a lot of replies and your commentary was in-depth!) but I was wondering if you could share your thoughts on the differences and similarities of the two and how we as believers should respond to both if/when they happen to us (if you believe they still can which I know is a matter of debate lol).
For those that have responded being levelheaded, with love and kindness, thank you! You encourage me!!! We as a church should be able to have constructive discussions on a myriad of prevalent or trending issues. Regardless of whether or not we agree, we should exhibit Christ love in our communications with each other (both in supporting or arguing against a stance). In all things seek God’s wisdom through prayer, fasting, and the inspired word of God.
Regardless if you’re left or right, white or black, short or tall, round or thin, old or young, essential or non-essential worker, for mask or against them, and everything in-between doesn’t matter…If you proclaim Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, we are brothers and sisters in Christ and I look forwarded to chatting with all of you throughout eternity! Have a blessed weekend!
David

(I’m on my phone, so forgive any weird typos)
The quick answer is that I don’t see a difference between the two, if we’re strictly looking at Scripture and the pattern God establishes. When it comes to God giving a dream, it was either 1) given to a prophet, or 2) given to someone who would have their dream interpreted by someone sent by God. In either case, a dream filled the same role as a “standard” prophecy – God’s means of directly communicating a message through human beings.
Fast-forward to the New Testament. For some reason (I suspect recent church traditions), people assume that prophecy functions differently after Christ. It’s seen as more subjective, lacking the authority we see in men like Elijah. If someone gets a prophecy wrong, people just shrug it off like it’s no big deal. Again, I just don’t see this if we’re looking at the Bible first, rather than letting our assumptions interpret the Bible for us. The Old and New Testament call for people to test prophets. Both warn of false prophets who come in the name of the Lord but clearly don’t have His authority. Both have harsh words for those who claim to represent God and try to lead people into beliefs that contradict Him.
A common objection is in Acts, when Peter quotes Joel about people having dreams and visions in the last days. I’m on mobile right now so I can’t find it quickly, but if you use the search function in your computer (CTRL F on PC, no idea what it is for Mac) and search the word “dispensation,” you should find my brief reply to that easily enough.
I appreciate you wanting to be responsible to the people God is placing in your care, and I hope you’ll continue digging in to why you believe what you believe. Depending on your church tradition, everything I’m saying may sound completely wrong. All I can encourage you to do is learn good exegesis so you can open God’s word, learn truth based on the entirety of the Bible, and then teach that truth to others. I hope everyone understands that I don’t care if they disagree with what I say, as long as their disagreement is firmly rooted in God’s word above all else.
And thank you for your words of encouragement to everyone. This topic can get pretty heated, but it really has been great to see such kindness and understanding all around. Tonight I’ll be praying for your growth and development as you continue on God’s path for your life.
I haven’t read through the other comments but I thought I would share my take for what it’s worth. I am Canadian. When I first heard the dreams I panicked. We stocked up, took a lot of our money and bought gold and silver and then shared the dream with other people. As the days have gone on I have been scratching my head over one big issue I can’t seem to settle with… why would God send a prophetic dream (and I do think it’s prophetic) about only the United States? We have a large body of believers in Canada and other countries around the world for that matter, but the interpretation did not include other countries which I find really strange. As a Canadian should I be ok? And if not, we don’t have a ton of guns here, our laws are totally different here. The idea of stocking up on guns and ammunition is such an American approach. There was also no mention of other political leaders, or buildings, or money. If the dreams truly were a warning to the Christian church, are those of us not in the USA excluded from Gods warning? Or are we just not as important to Him that He would include us too? It doesn’t make sense to me. I have nothing against Trump, I would take him over Trudeau any day, I know he stands for some great policies such as pro rights, but I’ve also seen Him mock the gospel by saying he has nothing to repent for. To think that the US has special favour because of him also doesn’t make sense to me.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts, I didn’t find you to be judgemental or unfair at all. I also think that Dana is very sincere, I know he has said multiple times he didn’t ask for these dreams, but we also need to be careful before making huge decisions that are not based solely on Gods word. The bible also tells us to not murder, to not worry about what we will eat because God will provide and to trust Him.
Thank you for sharing your perspective, Amanda. I imagine people around the world have seen the video, and I have wondered how people would respond to it outside of an American context.
Excellent article. But a couple questions: Are you not confusing foretelling with forthtelling, both of which are considered prophecy? I am also concerned where you say that God is not for a given political party. Well and good. But when one party has a clearly Marxist wing to it, supports abortion, supports radical homosexual agendas, and the other one at least has a good percentage of people who don’t, which side would Scripture command us to support? What would Niemoller or Bonhoeffer say? Is there really a moral equivalency between the party planks of the two parties? I am NOT saying one side is sinless; I am saying one side more clearly approximates justice, fairness and truth as I understand it from Scripture.
Great questions, JR.
The forth/foretelling discussion doesn’t seem relevant for what’s happening here, which is clearly a prophetic foretelling. And even with forth-telling, I see a difference between a message/prophecy directly from God and a message given by flawed humans that use God’s word as the basis for what they’re saying. One is infallible and should be obeyed, the other should be obeyed as far as it lines up with God’s infallible word. I know it’s popular to label pastors as prophets, but that may be more of a Christian tradition than anything else.
And I fear you may have missed the point of my politics discussion (or I’ve misunderstood why you bring it up). I absolutely believe that between the two parties in America, Republicans tend to allow us to promote the goodness of God in their major policies (you can read my articles on abortion, homosexuality, and BLM). However, many Christians take their favor of a political party to an extreme that is unbiblical (read what I’ve linked within this article to see a bigger discussion on that).
My point with the politics section was to say that many Christians have their worldview and biblical interpretations affected by their political stance. In no way did I say “Don’t vote Republican.” I just want to encourage Christians not to interpret the Bible and their understanding of truth through the Republican Party.
Acts 2:17 is all I need to say, and if these dreams are of the Lord,
we will know SOON ENOUGH.
I’m British; I don’t really have a horse in the race. However I always chuckle when I see American Christians somehow correlate the right to bear arms to Christian values. “Guns don’t kill people, people kill people.” News flash: guns were made for killing, not for defending yourself. Another news flash: you are not going to somehow fight the spirit of the devil with guns. A nation where the civilians are not allowed to own firearms hasn’t somehow by default fallen to the Antichrist. Yes Jesus said sell your cloak and buy a sword but a couple verses later he said He said if you live by the sword you shall die by the sword when Peter was defending Jesus. Show me in the NT where Jesus advocated killing in self-defence. Show me in the NT where a Christian killed anyone. Here’s what the NT says “The weapons of our warfare are not carnal but are made mighty through God for the pulling down of strongholds” The NT says “Our war is not against flesh and blood”. The ‘sword’ Jesus came with was spiritual not physical, which separate the soul from the spirit.
So yes abortion, homosexuality are biblically wrong, yes we know the ‘left’ defends these things more than those on the right. But the way the ‘right’ defends these killing machines to put it plainly is simply not Christian and people need to get this ‘God’s man’ and ‘God’s country ‘ philosophy is ludicrous. All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. America is not the New Jerusalem. Separate your faith from politics.
Great input David, thank you. Someone from Canada also gave their reaction, and I find your assessment as someone outside America just as interesting. If you wouldn’t mind sharing – how are others around you responding to the video since the American focus of it doesn’t affect them nearly as much?
https://youtu.be/7LsFZkVxQgI this is a direct video of Tomi Arayomi’s response, two British people discussing the dream
Well I’ve read through all the responses (took awhile) and have enjoyed the various discussions. I am here today because I forwarded the pastor’s video on to several Christian friends after I saw it last week. I said to them, “If this is from God and is true, then fasten your seat-belts!” I was interested in what he shared in the video but one (of two) little warning flag that just didn’t sit well with me was “the guns and ammunition” part. Someone earlier on commented on the verse that Jesus said to his disciples, “…and if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one” as a proof text that Jesus was suggesting to go and do so for self defense purposes. This however, is not the meaning Jesus was implying. It was used as an extreme “figure of speech” (not to be taken literally) to warn them that perilous times were about to come upon them…referring to his eventual arrest and death. Jesus spoke (in a different context) these words when that perilous betrayal and arrest eventually occurred. In the short scuffle that ensued, Jesus turned and rebuked one of his own after he drew his sword to defend him and said, “Put your sword back in its place, for all who draw the sword will die by the sword.” As was said by David in the comment above, nowhere in the New Testament, did God or Jesus ever suggest arming oneself with gun or ammunition to further the cause of the Kingdom of God! There are powers that originate from the pits of hell that directly and indirectly influence the minds and hearts of man…the presence of Satan has been allowed by God to exist until his time is over. This fallen creature is all part of God’s plan for the ages, and it is not pretty. As Christians we had best be arming ourselves with “spiritual” weapons capable to pull down strongholds not of flesh and blood for which swords, guns, and bullets will have no power against. I would highly suggest if you don’t know what those weapons are, you had best familiarize yourself with them and start using them. And as for the dreams, if they came from God, they will come about in God’s timing, plan and purpose, even if our interpretation may or may not be spot on (and I know that comment will draw criticism). I would caution all of us, that spiritual DISCERNMENT is vitally needed in these times we find our selves living in, and as Jesus warned, “be alert, do not be deceived, watch out, keep watch, be ready, be on your guard. And he closes his discourse with, “What I say to you, I say to everyone: (you) ‘Watch!'” (Mark 13:37). And I might add, that trusting in and obeying God will go a long way for the believer. We must Allow His righteousness, peace and joy to sustain us, NOT fear or anxiety; the latter will only rob us of God’s best!
I am so sorry when anyone is bashed with cruelty for speaking earnestly what they believe in love, and I believe that both you, Ray, and Pastor Dave have the best of intentions. Your rebuttal is fair, respectful, and, I believe, biblical. I have read/heard both podcasts/blogs a couple of times, and it has caused me to dig deeper into God’s Word, as I’m sure it has for thousands…maybe millions. And that is a win for The Kingdom!
It’s absolutely a win for the Kingdom! Thank you for the kind words, Karen. This is a much more emotional topic than I expected it to be, but I’ve been very encouraged at the number of people who have disagreed in a tone of respect and humility. There have been some angry people, and “that’s how the internet is” isn’t an excuse for it, but overall I’m uplifted to see how God’s people have agreed or disagreed while still bringing Him glory.
I can’t really speak for too many British people; I found out about the video when it was posted by a user on a Christian social media app called RIG Nation, run by a man called Tomi Arayomi (also British). Caveat: I am a continuationist and I believe him to occupy the office of a prophetic Apostle, but why I believe those things are another discussion altogether. What really made me take note of what Pastor Dana said was the fact that the same phrase ‘Brace yourself’ which he said the Holy Spirit had been telling him, was the thing the Apostle said he had received from the Holy Spirit all year. Whenever two or more unconnected sources in the church deliver the same message claimed to be from God, I pay some attention to at the very least. To paraphrase as best as possible, Apostle Tomi said his spirit bore witness with the message (note that he didn’t say he had seen the judgement on America himself, but I believe we see in part and prophesy in part) but however concluded that it was a prophetic warning of how things can get (like Jonah or Ezekiel) as opposed to a prophetic judgement which I myself agree with also. With regards to Pastor Dana’s interpretation, when it comes to prophetic words, I separate revelation from interpretation and this can be down to the maturity of the person in the mantle (i.e. When Paul was warned prophetically about being arrested if he went to Rome through a messenger, the believers around him concluded he shouldn’t go, whereas Paul who was more mature still went ahead and continued). On the one hand, some things did seem far-fetched such as the circumstances which would allow Russian and Chinese troops to land on US soil within the space of 6 months, but on the other hand, my ears were pricked again as I remember watching a video few months ago where a believer had said he had forseen a Russian invasion as part of judgement on America but this man did not put a timescale on such an event (see Torch of Christ Ministries YT Channel-Judgement on America back in December at your own discretion, he also seemed very sincere).
Initially, the imagination inside of me was inclined to this very possibly being imminent, however later on the logical part of me evaluated it more through the lens of scriprure and reason. Any prophecy is meant to exhort, encourage and edify (1 Corinthians 14:3) and we know that perfect and love casts out fear so if it invokes feelings of terror then either the wrong message has been delivered or the wrong information has been received. This is a criteria I use even for eschatology, anything about tribulation, NWO, antichrist system or second coming announced in the Bible is always good news for Christians as all things work together for good to those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. So I try not to get immersed in fear-mongering. The way I see it, the revelation may have generally have been from God, but his advice (one could debatably call it hoarding and stockpiling) was probably human wisdom which may serve to exacerbate the situation and it potentially could have been better.
Overall, my response is to watch and pray. Things will inevitably get clearer the closer we get.
Thank you Ray for clearly writing out many points that I was thinking about before I read your article. I think the main point for all of us as Christians is discernment. Even the apostle Paul encouraged the church to examine his teachings for themselves and not just take his word. I have to admit that I panicked a bit when I first saw his video, but once I stared to pray and read God’s Word I began to think clearly and question many of the things you point out. And I also appreciate the graciousness you show Pastor Dana. We are all brothers and sisters in Christ even when we don’t agree. 😊❤️
I believe in the information that was provided to Pastor Dana. In 2015 until present I have been provided a similar message and it started with prepare yourselves and much more. I think Jesus and his angels would want us to know when the time is near.
Thank you for all the careful and prayerful attention you have given this matter! I found it very helpful as I was hearing about these dreams for the first time. I commend to you Chuck Missler’s commentary on the not-at-all-mundane Book of Ruth, a study of which he explains is necessary for understanding Christ’s role as our Kinsman Redeemer as well as the Book of Revelation. And I don’t say that just because my name is Ruth! 🙂
I love the timing of your comment, because I just read Ruth this morning!
I don’t believe Ruth is remotely mundane, but the “everyday life” nature of it compared to Judges or Exodus is how some believers accidentally view the Christian life – they want the big, exciting things and aren’t content with a life that isn’t filled with supernatural experiences. I understand where it comes from, and I don’t think everyone who believes in the continuation of supernatural gifts is guilty of it, but I do believe the NEED for the supernatural is a definite problem. Just like those who followed Christ for the food or miracles, some people follow Him today because they want a spectacle instead of a Savior.
Caree, I appreciate your comments and agree.
You’ve got a lot of comments so I don’t know if this has been brought up. Another pastor pointed out that his coin prophesy dream took place on June 21, but CNN ran an article about the coin shortage being due to the pandemic on June 18. I’m not a big CNN fan, but they must be pretty good if they get wind of something three days before God.
Also, it should be obvious to all that this video was published long after most of the events in Dream 1 had already occurred. We basically have only his word that he had the dream in December. I would feel better if he had sent an email that could be traced, or something in writing that could be validated. If this was a real prophesy from God, there would be no question as to its validity.
Lastly, his report that Trump was missing in November is vague. For one thing, no matter who wins the election, Trump, if he is still alive, will still be president through December and most of January.
Your article has convinced me that Dana Coverstone is indeed a false prophet.
Great observations, Dennis. A few have pointed out that dream 1 was reported after the fact, but I hadn’t heard heard about the CNN article in June. I do know they’ve been talking about the US Mint since April, but the nearness of that article just adds to the logic of why these dreams appear so prophetic, yet clearly aren’t.
I think you already pointed this out, but it does seem strange that God would chime in with politics mentioning Trump and the second Amendment. Most other nations of the world don’t have a 2nd amendment and they most definitely don’t have a Trump. God’s prophesies, to my limited knowledge, tend to be Israel centric and not America centric.
Coverstone is definitely a fake, but I think he is correct about the bank vacuum cleaner thing. At least in as much as an intelligent person can predict that when a country borrows 3 Trillion dollars and then just gives it away, it is going to be disastrous for the economy in the long run. So he is using the vacuum cleaner sucking out the bank to symbolize the hyperinflation that is coming as a result of the giveaway. We know the harm these giveaway programs do from our experience with President Bush Jr’s two giveaways of much smaller amounts that resulted in $99 water heaters now costing over $400. Again, I don’t think a real prophesy would chime into the economic affairs of any other country besides Israel.
Hi, Mr. Burns I feel the same way regarding Dana Coverstone. He seems like a genuine man, but here’s what really threw me off. He saids to go stock up on ammo, which basically means to defend yourself. When people overseas are being persecuted by their faith in God who don’t defend themselves. As a Christian who’s is filled with the Holy Spirit. As you said in Matthew 24:36 Nobody knows the date, and or given year regarding the return of Jesus. His message to me seemed to provide no biblical scripture. I was reading through comments on his video and basically they all ignored the book of Matthew, and claimed that is a rapture event. When the truth is, the rapture, even then I’m keen to using that word because I feel as if the rapture is not biblical. In Matthew 24:36 strictly talks about the second coming of God. Revelation gives us insight endure to the end, and only a few be saved which matches the part in Matthew 24. In Daniel’s dream he never used a date. I already know November will be chaotic, that’s no surprise to anyone. Strictly because of the debate of vote by mail and election inference which will happen because our security is poor. I believe Dana Coverstone is a genuine man but I believe he is wrong about China. So many people are looking for answers but nobody is turning to God. I don’t even recall him using the Bible. Again, I maybe missing the point of what’s he making, but if I had a dream from God why would I wait to share? I would warn people before the pandemic started, to stock up. And none of these people picked up on Israel, which has alot to do with Revelation in itself. May God bless you brother.
Sincerely,
a beloved brother in Christ.
Ours Is The Terminal Generation
Peter, James, John, and Andrew upon hearing what they would face during their lifetime for His name’s sake asked the Lord Jesus, “What shall be the sign of thy coming?” (Mt. 24:3f). His answer included all that would take place prior to and including His “Second Coming” (Mt. 24:4-31; Mk. 13:5-8, 10, 12-27; Lk. 21:8-11, 25-28) and the signs to look for with the Parable of the Fig Tree and the Parable of All the Trees (Mt. 24:32; Mk. 13:28; Lk. 21:29-31).
“Now learn a parable of the fig tree: When its branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is [near] (Mt. 24:32; Mk. 13:28). Behold the fig tree, and all the trees; When they now shoot forth, ye see and know of your own selves that summer is now [near] at hand (Lk. 21:29b-30). So also ye, (Mt. 24:33a; Mk. 13:29a; Lk. 21:31a) in like manner (Mk. 13:29b), when ye (Mt. 24:33b; Mk. 13:29c; Lk. 21:31b) shall (Mt. 24:33c; Mk. 13:29d) see (Mt. 24:33d; Mk. 13:29e; Lk. 21:31c) all (Mt. 24:33e) these things (Mt. 24:33f; Mk. 13:29f; Lk. 21:31d) come to pass (Mk. 13:29f; Lk. 21:31e), know that it (Mt. 24:33g; Mk. 13:29g) the kingdom of God (Lk. 21:31f) is [near] (Mt. 24:33h; Mk. 13:29h; Lk. 21:31g) at hand (Lk. 21:31g), even at the doors (Mt. 24:33i; Mk. 13:29h). Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass (Mt. 24:34a; Mk. 13:30a; Lk. 21:32a) away (Lk. 21:32b), till all (Mt. 24:34b; Mk. 13:30b; Lk. 21:32c) these things (Mt. 24:34c; Mk. 13:30c) be fulfilled (Mt. 24:34d; Mk. 13:30d; Lk. 21:32d).”
The two signs that were to indicate His Second Coming was near would be the “rebirth” of the nation of Israel and the “return of her men” to the land of Israel! The fig tree is a symbol used in Scripture that refers to the nation of Israel. God, Himself, used figs as a symbol for Israel in a parable recorded in Jeremiah 24:1-2, 4-10. In a parable told by Jotham to the men of Shechem that is recorded in Judges 9:7-15, trees were used to symbolize the men of Israel who had gone forth to anoint a king. The disciples knew that fig trees leafed out in late spring, near the beginning of summer (Mt. 24:32; Mk. 13:28). Thus, when the “fig tree begins to bloom” [the nation of Israel reborn], they should know that summer [His Second Coming] is “near at hand” (Lk. 21:29-30). After more than 2,500 years Israel once again became a sovereign nation when she was reborn on May 14, 1948, fulfilling the first sign the Lord Jesus had given. The vast number of Jewish men [trees] who returned to their ancestral homeland fulfilled the second sign!
“This generation shall not pass away, till all these things be fulfilled,” declared the Lord Jesus. The generation that will witness His Second Coming began with the rebirth of the nation of Israel on May 14, 1948. Since we are now in the early months of the year 2020, this must be a generation of eighty years (Ps. 90:10), which will end with the Second Coming on the Feast of a Day of Atonement [Yom Kippur] on 9/30/28. The prophetic significance of the Feast of Trumpets will be fulfilled with the Rapture on 9/20/20 (Jn. 4:35; Ti. 2:13). The 21 judgments of God that are described in Revelation 6:1-19:21 will be fulfilled during the next eight years! We are now living in the time that the Lord Jesus said was the beginning of sorrows (Mt. 24:4-8).
A complete explanation of all that is referred to in this missive and much more may be found on http://www.endtimewarnings.org. Hopefully, a reading of “A Biblical View of the Past, Present, & Future” will inform, edify, and encourage all who study its content. Maranatha!
@ David
One lady from Charisma news told me, that she saw a dream that Russia and China will invade America.
my good friend from Canada told me a few yrs ago, she said that she saw many people protest in Washington, DC with guns and also saw foreign armies everywhere in this city and also saw there is no American flag at NYSE.
my other friend from Delaware told me, she saw a dream that she went to the grocery store to buy meat but she saw that there is no food anywhere in the store except a loaf of bread, so she asked a male cashier about the food, he told her that the loaf of bread is all he had left then the dream ended.
I have seen and heard that many believers saw a dream about America and say it is awful everywhere in America.
Jesus says all things must happen before he comes back.
what I said in here is no joke at all. Yes, it will happen.
I appreciate your well-thought-out analysis of Pastor Dana’s prophetic dreams. I am not a Christian, so I don’t know how much credence my comments will be given in this conversation. I am, however, a lover of God, and as someone who has put a lot of thought into the importance of spiritual values in shaping society, I wanted to chime in. I agree that Pastor Dana’s biases are showing through, that he has conflated his Christian values with political and patriotic ones. It also strikes me that he is implying that ongoing protests supporting human rights are somehow leading to a chaotic breakdown of society. I see such protests as, for the most part, legitimate expressions of concern and necessary critiques of racism and corruption. I would also point out that our nation was founded on expressions of protest, against British oppression. Certainly dreams occasionally contain prescient elements, and perhaps Pastor Dana is picking up on something in the collective unconscious that presages chaos. My concern is that he seems to be stoking fear and division, calling for possible violence, and feeding a narrative of unrest and civil war (perhaps as a way to self-fulfill end times prophecy). We face enough division and heartbreak in our nation at the moment; let’s work to unify, not divide.
Thank you for the thoughts, Andy. I think you’re very right – there’s a range of political and religious beliefs that could be at play. Assuming unrest to fulfill end-times prophecy is an interesting point I hadn’t considered.
The job of a watchman is to warn God’s people. If he does not, their blood will be on his hands. I believe that based upon numerous examples in the Old Testament for instance that God WILL always warn His people ahead of time. I have had dreams and words from God that did come true and no one else can say for sure if it really came from God or not until it is fulfilled. It is up to them to pray and listen for God to confirm the warnings that they hear. Ray Burns, what accountability will you have if you discredit a watchman and discourage God’s people from listening to His warning if this comes true?
I’d encourage you to read the full article, including both addendums, as that should address your concerns.
If anything, I would not hesitate to state it is getting harder to hear the voice that is authentic, the voice that really does speak for God and knows when to speak and when to listen. I have seen just about every sort of so called prophecy or dream or what have you over the last 10 years or so online and the people who go along with it like some sort of cheer leading section.
I appreciate the blog post here and was glad to see it and do not find in the least it is in any way creating a negative opinion of Dana Coverstone that Mr Coverstone has not seemingly created for himself in lieu of the fact he presents what could only be a prophecy, if it were, while backpedaling throughout his rendition and declaring he is not a prophet.
It turns into ‘well what exactly are you actually saying then?’
I tend to agree with the observation those 40 newspaper a day readings have played into this dream as our dreams absolutely reflect what we consume and the events of the day. In fact, that hobby/habit, would reflect on the fact that Mr Coverstone is very interested in world events and nothing wrong with that. I am also interested in world events but certainly do not have the time, or even the inclination, to soak up that much information that may or may not accurately reflect the actual world news considering what has happened to journalism and the total lack of credibility that seems to be a global event as opposed to only the US.
Well I am getting long winded here, but I see the usual type of ad hominim attacks on the writer of the blog post, some name calling and a cheering section for the end of the US as we know it. I just honestly see most people cannot discern, don’t even care to do so and would much rather follow what is apparently an epidemic of false prophecies with no end in sight.
I don’t think Mr Coverstone is trying to lead anyone astray but sincerity is no insurance against deception.
For the record, I have never responded to any blog post or article in my life, but things are reaching ground zero in the lives of people who have become dependent on just ‘another word from God’ spoken through someone who has no more privilege to seek God than they do, but has decided they have the calling of a prophet when they do not have that authority whatsoever. Don’t be fooled. A prophet has authority and putting yourself under the authority of a false prophet means you are being led astray and in this case, I do not directly mean the dreams of Mr Coverstone
Great thoughts Lydia, thank you for your call to discernment. And I had to chuckle that you worried about getting long-winded on a blog post with an estimated reading time of 20+ minutes. Don’t worry, you fit right in 🙂
